World Top Ten University Imperial College London established an official cooperation with Khon Kaen University for co-research of between the Faculties of Medicine.  

June, 2013 marked a historical moment as the 8th World Ranked University, ICL, has joined hands with Khon Kaen University.  Among the collaborative research planned are included Metabonomics and potential to conduct MRI endoscopy trials. Professor Weerachai Kosuwon, Vice President for Research and Technology Transfer Affairs and Dr. Simon J. Buckle,  International Pro Rector signed the agreement while Professor Pisake Lumbiganon, Dean, Faculty of Medicine and Professor Simon D Taylor-Robinson, Clinical Dean of the Faculty of Medicine served as witnesses.  This is an important step for MD-KKU to help Khon Kaen University attain status as a research university. 

       The visit to ICL was very fruitful in learning administrative systems and technologies which can be used to develop the “Research Institution on Liver Fluke and Cholangiocarcinoma, Khon Kaen University”. During the visit, the delegation from KKU also attended a seminar on cholangiocarinoma, visited the Institute of Globe Health and Innovation and Wellcome Global Centre and toured Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) and Mass Spectroscopy (MS) facilities.

The experts from ICL and the Faculty of Medicine Khon Kaen University have had an academic and research knowledge exchange in a study visit and seminar on Cholangiocarcinoma; Strategy for UK Life Sciences; Technologies for Global Health; The Global Health Policy Summit; Digital Dimensions of Health Care; Primary Care-the Central Function and Main Focus; A Neglected Resource-Transforming Healthcare Through Human Capital; Saving Mothers’ Lives-Transforming Strategy into Action; Countering Non-Communicable Disease Through Innovation; Creating Sustainable Health; and Care Systems in Ageing Societies, Global Health Problems.   ICL experts attending were 1) Professor Elaine Holmes; 2) Professor Joanne Webster; 3) Professor Richard Syms; 4) Professor Mike Levin; 5) Mrs. Helen Morement; 6) Dr. Shahid Khan; 7) Dr. Simon Ralphs; 8) Dr. Jasmina Saric; 9) Dr. Nicolette Davies; 10) Dr. Simon Ralphs  11) Dr. Abigail Zabron.  From MD-KKU:1) Associate Professor Witoon Prasertcharoensuk, MD, Associate Dean for International Affairs; 2) Professor Sopit Wongkham, PhD, Associate Dean for Research Affairs; 3) Associate Professor Paiboon Sithithaworn, PhD, Head, Department of Parasitology; 4) Associate Professor Nittaya Chamadol, MD, Head, Department of Radiology; 5) Assistant Professor Narong Khuntikeo, MD, Department of Surgery; and 6) Associate Professor Srivieng Pairojkul, MD, Head, Palliative Care Unit, Srinagarind Hospital.  This academic visit to the ICL was very informative and successful.
