KKU President signs an MOU with Thailand Consortium for Atmospheric Research (TCAR)

July 13, 2021 at 13:00 p.m. – Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., President of Khon Kaen University signed a Memorandum of Understanding with 29 institutions and organizations on the principle of Thailand atmospheric research collaboration in order to found Thailand Consortium for Atmospheric Research, develop new infrastructures to support atmospheric research, collaboratively conduct research and build innovation related to atmospheric research, and carry out other related activities. The signing ceremony was done online.

The Memorandum of Understanding with 29 institutions and organizations on the principle of Thailand atmospheric research collaboration is aimed at: 1) Establishing Thailand Consortium for Atmospheric Research by using the existing research infrastructures and developing the infrastructures to support atmospheric research that solves the problem of Thailand atmospheric condition and developing research and building innovations related to atmospheric science. 2) Strengthening the research circle of Thailand. 3) Developing atmospheric expertise among the country’s personnel. 4) Expediting utilization of atmospheric research in national development. 5) Carrying out other related activities as seen appropriate by the Thailand Consortium for Atmospheric Research. The MOU will be effective for 5 years.

The institutions and organizations that signed this MOU are: National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand (Public Organization),  Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (Public Organization), National Hydroinformatics Data Center (Public Organization), Pollution Control Department, Kasetsat University, Khon Kaen University, Chulalongkorn University, Chiangmai University, Thaksin University, King Mongkut University of Technology Lad Krabung, King Mongkut University of Technology Thonburi, King Mongkut University of Technology North Bangkok, Raja Mangala University of Technology Lanna, Suranaree University of Technology, Thammasat University, Naresuan University, Nawamintharathirat University, Payao University, Mahasarakham University, Mahidol University, Mae Jo University, Rajabhat University Chiangmai, Rajabhat University Lampang, Silapakorn University, Prince of Songkhla University, National Institute of Development and Administration, Praboromarajchanok Institute, Thai Society of Higher Education Institutes on Environment, and Meteorological Department.

The signing ceremony for Thailand Consortium for Atmospheric Research (TCAR) was in fact officially held for the first time on November 23, 2020 at The Sukosol Hotel Bangkok. The event was honored to have the Minister of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation presiding over the ceremony. Khon Kaen University already signed the Consortium MOU that time. However, on December 18, 2020, an agreement was made to add one more organization to the consortium. Thus, the second MOU was signed on this occasion, via an Online system.
