KKU administrators hold an online meeting with the Mekong Institute on: Sustainable Food Systems in GMS to strengthen the agricultural sector

Tuesday August 10, 2021 at 13:00 p.m. – Khon Kaen University administrators led by Assoc. Prof Nawarat Wara-Aswapati Charoen, Ph.D., Vice President for International Affairs, held an online meeting with the Mekong Institute on the Concept Note: Sustainable Food Systems in GMS. The meeting brainstormed opinions and explained the roles of key allies in food security and protection of people’s health as well as promotion of economic growth.

Assoc. Prof Nawarat Wara-Aswapati Charoen, Ph.D., Vice President for International Affairs, as the representative of Khon Kaen University, said that KKU is pleased to cooperate and support the Mekong Institute (MI) in the said implementation. The Innovation and Enterprise Section and the Faculty of Agriculture are taking the leading role in this regard. At the meeting, in addition, many experts who have been working on food security from various countries shared their experiences. For instance, Mr. Rapeepat Chansriwong, Vice Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives (MOAC), Dr. Prasun Kumar Das, Secretary General of Asia Pacific Rural and Agricultural Credit Association (APRACA), representatives from Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI) and Asian Development Bank (ADB). The next step will be putting the policy into practice in order to promote sustainability in the already strong agricultural sector of Thailand and the Great Mekong Sub-region (GMS).
