KKU honors two doctors of the University whose research win TCEP outstanding researcher award and outstanding research award of 2021

The Thai College of Emergency Physicians this year awards an outstanding researcher award of 2021 to Assoc. Prof. Phraew Khottruchin, M.D. and an outstanding research award of 2021 to Asst. Prof. Thapanawong Mitsungnoen, M.D. Both are full-time lecturers of the Department of Emergency Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University. The prizes were given to the two doctors on November 19, 2021 at the 5th Annual Meeting of Thai College of Emergency Physicians 2021 during the 10th Annual Conference of Thai Emergency Physicians 2021, held on November 17-19, 2021 by virtual conference.

Assoc. Prof. Phraew Khottruchin, M.D., the 2021 awardee of the outstanding researcher prize is now a full-time lecturer of the Department of Emergency Medicine, Khon Kaen University. She graduated in Medicine (First-Class Honors), and received Cert. in Medicine, LIC. For Emergency Medicine, Cert. in Cardiovascular Diseases from the Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University; and received a doctorate degree in Hypertensive Emergency from Jichi Medical University School of Medicine, Tochigi, Japan.

Publications and special interests: Publications in peer-reviewed journals on the topics related to hypertension (Epidemiology, risks, treatment, and lifestyle modification), cardiovascular emergency condition, metabolic abnormality, resuscitation, and other emergency conditions.

International positions:

– Visiting scientist at Jichi Medical University School of Medicine, Cardiovascular medicine department, Tochigi, Japan.

– International Society of Hypertension Asia Pacific Regional Advisory Group (ISH APAC RAG) 2020-2022

– Research committee of the International Federation for Emergency Medicine (IFEM)

– Elected to Fellowship in the American College of Cardiology (FACC)

– Member of HOPE Asia (Hypertension Cardiovascular Outcome Prevention and Evidence in Asia) Network

International awards:

– Best oral presentation award, Hypertension Seoul in the conjunction with the Scientific Meeting of The Korean Society of Hypertension or the year 2020 and 2021

– The Early Career Researcher Award (The 2018 Tulip Award) from The Complimentary Therapy in Medicine; Research Title: Effect of Thai instrumental folk music on blood pressure: A randomized controlled trial in stage-2 hypertensive patients.

Asst. Prof. Thapanawong Mitsungnoen, M.D. who receives the 2021 outstanding research award is now a full-time lecturer of the Department of Emergency Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University. He graduated in Medicine (Second-Class Honors) from Khon Kaen University and received certificates in emergency medicine from Khon Kaen University, is now holding Certificate as a specialist in Clinical Pharmacology and Toxicology issued by the Faculty of Medicine, Mahidol University. He is interested in research on emergency medicine, medical education, hypertension, cardiovascular emergency condition, pharmacological science and clinical toxicology. His research work awarded is the “Precourse Preparation Using a Serious Smartphone Game on Advanced Life Support Knowledge and Skills: Randomized Controlled Trial”, which was publicized in the Journal of Medical Internet Research:  https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32149711/

It is an honor that the two lecturers of the Department of Emergency Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University: Assoc. Prof. Phraew Khottruchin, M.D. and Asst. Prof. Thapanawong Mitsungnoen, M.D. are awarded the prizes this year from the Thai College of Emergency Physicians.
