KKU, Office of Representatives Secretary, and Office of Senators Secretary expand academic collaboration in Lao PDR

The trip of Thai delegation to Lao PDR under the 2019 ASEAN law and foreign affairs personnel exchange program

Monday July 1, 2019 at the ASEAN Study Center of Khon Kaen University Nongkhai Campus – Assoc. Prof. Dr. Apirat Petsiri, Dean of Faculty of Integrated Social Sciences and Director of ASEAN Study Center; Miss Rongrat Wirotepet, Director of Law Division and Miss Netdao Jamroendararasamee, Director of Division of Foreign Affairs of Khon Kaen University welcomed Miss Supasinee Khamasuntorn, Vice Secretary of the House of Representatives and the delegation from the Parliament who came to KKU prior to a trip to Lao PDR. The delegation and the host met to prepare information related to politics and government administration and law before the trip which is under the the 2019 ASEAN law and foreign affairs personnel exchange program. On this occasion, Mr. Thongphoune SOUKKASEN and Mr. Lenksaek BOUNTHALATH, lecturers from Faculty of Law and Political Science of Lao National University gave a talk on Lao’s law structure and the work of the government, the parliament and the local parliament in national and law development to meet the principles of ASEAN and the World Trading Organization. The objectives are to respond to investment in the globalized era and to facilitate investors as well as to build equality among communities. Next, the Vice Secretary of the House of Representatives, the delegation from the Parliament and from Khon Kaen University went to meet Mr. Kiatikhun Chatprasert, Thai Ambassador to Vientiane to explain about the objectives of the trip to Lao PDR and to exchange opinions on foreign affairs.

Tuesday July 2, 2019 at the Lao PDR National Parliament, the Vice Secretary of the House of Parliament led the delegation from the Parliament and from Khon Kaen University to meet Mr. Suban Sawabutr from the Office of Secretary of Lao PDR National Parliament and the administrators to countries. The discussion also covered possibility for exchange of personnel and students with Khon Kaen University. The delegation then visited the National Parliament Library of Lao PDR to study the academic management before a courtesy call to Mrs. Suansawan Wiyaket, Secretariat of Lao PDR National Parliament to discuss collaboration for development of legislation as members of ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA).

Wednesday July 3, 2019 at the Office of the President, Lao National University, the Vice Secretary of the House of Parliament led the delegation from the Parliament and from Khon Kaen University made a courtesy call to Prof. Dr. Somsee Yophansai, President of Lao National University. The delegation from Thailand and administrators of Lao National University discussed the roles of university in the growth of the country and of ASEAN, support from the national parliament and the interesting research topics at present related to law when compared to other ASEAN countries in order to promote efficient collaboration in foreign affairs. The outcome would assist the legislative work of the two countries.
