KKU comes up with educational innovation for schools in the northeast

Institute for Research and Development in Teaching Profession for ASEAN, KKU and schools in the northeast collaborate in developing mathematics class with Lesson Study and Open Approach

    From July 25-26, 2019 at Sisaket Province, Khon Kaen University led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Maitree Inprasitha, Acting Director of Institute for Research and Development in Teaching Profession for ASEAN, the Educational Foundation for Development of Thinking Skills, the Siam Commercial Foundation, Center for Research in Mathematics Education (CRME), and university network in the northeast of Thailand organized the workshop for pilot schools in Sisaket Province and schools supported by the collaboration from Institute for Research and Development in Teaching Profession for ASEAN on textbooks solving problems about Lesson Study and Open Approach to enhance quality of mathematics education.

    This activity was organized for signing MOU with schools in the northeast, the north, and the south of Thailand with an objective to develop mathematics education with the help of Lesson Study and Open Approach. At the opening ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Prakasit Anuphap-sanyakorn, Acting President of Sisaket Rajabhat University remarked welcome speech. The ceremony was also attended by other administrators from Sisaket Rajabhat University – Asst. Prof. Dr. Surasak Srikrajang, Counselor of President, and Dr. Noppawan Chatmontree, Dean of the Faculty of Education – and Dr. Ganchana Sucheepong, a lecturer from the Faculty of Education, Ubon Ratchathani Rajabhat University.

    On July 25, 2019, there was a talk on “Lesson Study and Open Approach based on textbooks emphasizing problem solving skill to enhance quality of mathematics education.” In the afternoon, there was the workshop on creating teaching plan based on Kyozai Kenkyu by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Maitree Inprasitha, Acting Director of Institute for Research and Development in Teaching Profession for ASEAN; Dr. Ariya Suriyon, a lecturer from the Faculty of Education, Nakhon Phanom University; Mr. Weerasuk Kanauan, a lecturer from the Faculty of Education, Ubon Ratchathani Rajabhat University; Mr. Phattaraphong Kunseeda, a lecturer from the Faculty of Education, Nakhon Phanom University; and Mr. Thong-oon Manmai, a lecturer from the Faculty of Education, Sisaket Rajabhat University.

    Moreover, there was a workshop on Open Class based on Lesson study and Open Approach for Grade 1 students of Banphonkha School (Winitwittayakan), Muang district, Sisaket Province, by Supatra Kammanop, a teacher from Banphonkha School (Winitwittayakan). Then it was the reflection on Lesson Study and Open Approach as well as the summary of this workshop collaborated by Institute for Research and Development in Teaching Profession for ASEAN.

    The participants of the workshop were administrators and teachers from the northeastern schools supported by the collaboration of Institute for Research and Development in Teaching Profession for ASEAN, totally 185 people from 18 schools.

    From August 3-4, 2019, the workshop is going to be held again in Songkla Province in the south of Thailand by Institute for Research and Development in Teaching Profession for ASEAN.
