APEC selected Khon Kaen Municipality to study of Low-Carbon Model Town

After Khon Kaen Municipality (KKM) from APEC committee to be a volunteer town for low-carbon model town, Khon Kaen municipality got a chance to present the ongoing low-carbon projects in Khon Kaen at the 3rd APEC LCMT Symposium in Lima, Peru. College of Local Administration (COLA), Khon Kaen University was selected by KKM to represent KKM in this symposium. The symposium was the forum for many cities to exchange ideas regarding low-carbon city, resilience city and sustainable city like San Borja municipality Municipalidad De San Borja. The mayor of San Borja, Dr. Alberto Tejada Noriega, gave the example of commitment to make the city more sustainable and make sure that the benefits belong to citizens of San Borja.

Dr. Pattanapong Topark-ngarm, assistant dean for international affairs at College of Local Administration Khon Kaen University (COLA KKU ) gave a presentation showcase to current low-carbon projects such as KKM’s waste management program, Low-Carbon Implementation Projects (UNDP-TGO), and Khon Kaen Light Rail Transit (LRT). KKM has shown a strong commitment to become a low-carbon city. In the end, KKM was selected to conduct a feasibility study for APEC LCMT in the next phase of the program.

Other international organizations presented here were ICLEI South America, 100 Resilient Cities (100RC) 100 Resilient Cities – Pioneered by the Rockefeller Foundation, Asia Pacific Energy Research Center (APERC), Ministry of Energy and Mines, Peru, and The Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency Thailand
