Architecture Master Program goes on a field study trip in Singapore

Master of Building Technology, Faculty of Architecture, Khon Kaen University, goes on a field trip to study building technology and develop academic collaboration with national universities in Singapore

On November 4-6, 2019, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yingsawad Chaiyakul, President of Master of Building Technology Program; and Asst. Prof. Pornsawat Piriyasatta, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, led lecturers and students from Master of Building Technology Program, Faculty of Architecture, Khon Kaen University, to study building technology in Singapore, especially energy saving and environmental conservation. The group from Faculty of Architecture, KKU, also exchanged knowledge on teaching and learning with National University of Singapore and Singapore Polytechnic University.  

Master of Building Technology is the program emphasizes on architectural research and innovation relating to energy saving and environmental conservation. Singapore is one of many countries having fast development of building technology combined with local architectural knowledge. Academic institutes play an important role in supporting building technology that enables the design to meet the condition of weather through research on energy saving and environmental conservation.

Dr. Nirmal Kishnani, Associate Dean and President of Master of Architecture Program of Design, Technology, and Sustainability Track, Department of Architecture School of Design and Environment, National University of Singapore, escorted the study group around and explained the concept of Net Zero Energy of the new building consisting of classrooms, library, and the meeting room. It was also a good opportunity to observe activities in architecture and design classrooms.

The study group from KKU was also warmly welcomed by Mr. Ho Yenn Giin, President of Architecture Program, School of Architecture and the Built Environment, Singapore Polytechnic University. He presented teaching as well as learning approaches and offer vocational program, especially computer program that could be developed into further academic collaboration.

This field trip study also included Urban Redevelopment Authority and the observation of various design projects – Garden by the Bay, National Museum of Singapore, Jewel Changi Airport.
