KKU held “Virtual Classroom Online Training” overcome Covid 19 Crisis

On March 12, 2020, Institute of Learning and Teaching Innovation, Khon Kaen University held Virtual Classroom Teaching Training when an emergency situation via Google Hangouts Meet and Microsoft Teams on the topic of Covid-19, and KKU preparation. This event honored by Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, Acting President of Khon Kaen University delivers an opening speech by the online system, also lectured by Asst. Prof. Denpong Soodphakdee, Vice President for Digital University Development and Dr. Kitt Tientanopajai, director of Bureau of Information Technology, Khon Kaen University. In addition, there are more than 100 people join online training via Google Hangout Meet.

Asst. Prof. Denpong Soodphakdee, Vice President for Digital University Development reveals that the beginning of the project arises from many availabilities. First, the students can access through technological devices such as smartphones, computers, laptops, and tablets or if they do not have those things, KKU also provides the central ones for them. Second, KKU internet availability that supports the Visual Classroom system. Even though the students do not attend the classroom, they can self-learning as same as they study in the real class. In addition, this program very benefits a lecture class, or demonstrative class, in which both teachers and students can interact with each other. 

Asst. Prof. Denpong Soodphakdee, Vice President for Digital University Development said “ KKU has been operated the Visual Classroom System. However, there is nothing change much because the students still study in the classroom. Meanwhile, there is an emergency such as the spread of Covid 19 recently, and the other circumstances could happen such as disaster, flooding. Therefore, these cause KKU to have a Visual classroom, which is now suitable for Thailand or a global situation; however, the teacher will consider the subject’s characteristics and can use appropriate tools for teaching. 

Asst. Prof. Denpong Soodphakdee continued “Online learning via Visual Classroom is different from the Live that the Live’s response will show just a comment while Visual classroom will have more various functions such as voice conversation, simultaneous response, face to face interaction. Moreover, this program supports 250 students in maximum joining the VDO call like a big classroom, and the lecture can use a simple device or computer, which has a camera to demonstrate the learners, and they can simultaneously ask the questions.
