Faculty of Education, KKU, joins Teacher Training Institution Network to train back-to-locality teachers in technology and new-normal classrooms

November 2-3, 2020 at Charoen Thani Princess Hotel, Khon Kaen – Faculty of Education, Khon Kaen University collaborated with the 19 Teacher Training Institutions for Development of the Upper Northeast to train teaching assistants, Class 4, who have been recruited since 2019 to hold the Professional Training workshop entitled: “The 2nd Workshop of Teacher Induction: Smart Teaching and Learning in The New Normal:  Blending Innovative Pedagogy and Digital Technology”. The opening session was honored to have Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sumalee Chaicharoen, Dean of the Faculty and Chairperson of the Teacher Training Institution Node for Development of the Upper Northeast preside over the session. Among attendants at the opening ceremony were administrators and representatives from the Teacher Training Institutions for Development of the Upper Northeast. Trainees were from schools in the upper Northeast region totaling 473 teachers.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sumalee Chaicharoen said, “The Teacher Training Project for Local Development aims to select good and smart people to train in teaching profession at quality institutions. When graduated, these trainees will be recruited as teachers or educators in their hometown. They are required to participate in the professional training during the period that they work as teaching assistants 2 years after official recruitment. The training this time is like a venue for learning and sharing about the lesson study and good governance in learning. Participants will have a chance to listen to special talks by experts in education and educational technology. Moreover, there will be a workshop arranged for them in the use of digital technology that supports learning management. They will also be able, at the training, to build their network with other teachers under the project.”

     

The activities in the training included special talks: “Smart Teaching and Learning in The New Normal” by Asst. Prof. Dr. Niwat Srisawat, Associate Dean for Research and Creative Education Innovation of Faculty of Education, Khon Kaen University and “Technology-Enabled Active Learning” by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Panita Wannapirun, Head of the Research Center for Management of Innovation and Technology, Faculty of Industrial Education, King Mongkut University of Technology, North Bangkok. The education technology talked about is the technology all teachers must adopt. Teachers must also incorporate technology in their classrooms in order to prepare their students for the new normal living in the next century.

   

   

The workshop was divided into 4 sessions, namely, 1) Analysis and design of new-normal teaching, 2) Building online classrooms, 3) Producing video for learning and building an online television channel, 4) Use of digital technology to support learning assessment. At the workshop, there were experts assisting the trainees. The workshop then ended with the trainees presenting and evaluating their teaching training in groups so that they will apply in their profession back home.
