Khon Kaen University Hosts 5th Societal Contribution Service Fair

Khon Kaen University (KKU), in collaboration with 55 partner organizations, held its 5th annual “KKU Societal Contribution” fair on September 5, 2025, providing a wide range of free services to the public at the Khon Kaen Railway Station.

The event was inaugurated by KKU President Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., who noted that this year’s fair was the largest to date. “With 55 internal and external partners, we are able to serve the growing number of people who attend each year, ensuring everyone receives comprehensive and equitable services,” he stated. “The university is committed to working with society in all dimensions—from education and academic services to career promotion and healthcare—to improve people’s well-being and benefit the nation.”

Ajarn Natsamol Tanakulrungsarit Vice President for Legal and Communications that the event is a cornerstone of the university’s “Societal Contribution” strategy. The initiative aims to leverage KKU’s knowledge, technology, and innovation to create economic and social value for over 95 communities in the Khon Kaen area.

Services at the fair were organized into four main categories: health services, knowledge and consulting, community career development, and pet care. The career development section featured agricultural products and other goods from community networks that have partnered with the university to improve their livelihoods.

The event was well-received by local residents. “I come every year,” said Suchanya Saennoi, a resident of the Kaen Nakhon community. “If it weren’t for this event, the cost for my three dogs would be over 2,000 baht. I wait for it every September.” She added that after getting her pets vaccinated in the morning, she returns later for her own health check-ups, including dental scaling.

The fair also served as a vital public education platform. Ronnachai Pimsawat, a professional nurse from the Sirikit Heart Center of the Northeast, highlighted the importance of the CPR training booth. “Basic CPR is a skill everyone should have,” he said. “Survival often depends on the first person who finds the patient. By providing this training every year, we see growing public awareness of life-saving skills, which is incredibly encouraging.”

Attendees had access to an extensive list of free services, including dental exams, fillings, and extractions; flu vaccinations; breast and cervical cancer screenings; heart health checks with EKGs; mental health consultations; and traditional Thai massage. Professional advice was also available on topics ranging from legal matters and business strategy to construction and food processing. For pet owners, the event offered free vaccinations for dogs and cats.
