Khon Kaen University Showcases Student Projects Aimed at Solving Social Issues

Khon Kaen University’s Institute of General Education hosted the “GE KKU Showcase & Pitching Day” on October 10, 2028, providing a platform for students to present projects that apply their learning to address real-world social and environmental challenges in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The event, held at the Phot Sarasin Building, was designed to highlight the importance and impact of general education courses. It offered students an opportunity to demonstrate their ability to integrate knowledge into practical solutions, fostering creativity and problem-solving skills. The showcase also served to recognize outstanding projects from both students and their faculty advisors.

Assistant Professor Dr. Narin Chomphuphuang, Acting Deputy Director of the Institute, presided over the event. “Today is an opportunity for students to showcase their potential and exchange experiences,” he said. “General education courses focus on developing the soft skills that support students’ major fields of study, preparing them to better navigate life. The 73 projects presented today reflect the creative power within our students.” He added, “The future is not something we wait for, but something we can design together.”

A total of 73 student projects were presented, categorized into three themes: creative media for communication, the use of AI in learning, and social innovation projects.

Jakarin Somsong, a first-year student from the Faculty of Technology, presented his project aimed at promoting helmet use on campus. “I noticed that many students and staff do not wear helmets, so I created a campaign poster and a survey which I shared on our faculty’s social media pages,” he explained. “The response was quite positive. I used knowledge from my general education course to design the media with Canva. The course taught not just technical skills, but also creative and social-oriented thinking, which allowed me to apply my knowledge meaningfully.”

The event also featured short film screenings, a student talk on the value of general education courses, and an audience vote for favorite projects. The day concluded with an awards ceremony, where five prizes were given in each of the three project categories, along with special recognition awards.
