On 21 November 2025, the Faculty of Associated Medical Sciences, Khon Kaen University (KKU), conducted a field visit to provide urine cotinine testing services for students at Namphong Suksa School, Namphong District, Khon Kaen Province, under the project “Test, Know, Quit, Stay Away from Smoke.” The initiative aims to campaign against smoking and promote health among secondary school students through urine cotinine testing, a biomarker that indicates active smoking or exposure to secondhand smoke. The testing helps students receive personalised health feedback to increase awareness and strengthen motivation to reduce or quit smoking.
The activity was led by Associate Professor Dr. Jureerat Daduang, Dean of the Faculty of Associated Medical Sciences, along with faculty members, staff, and third-year Medical Technology students who participated in providing cotinine analysis services.
The project integrates teaching and learning with academic services, aligning with the Faculty of Associated Medical Sciences’ mission to promote health and monitor risk behaviors among youth. It aims to create awareness about the impacts of smoking and stimulate genuine motivation among smokers to quit. The initiative also corresponds with Sustainable Development Goal 3 (SDG 3): Good Health and Well-being, particularly regarding the prevention and reduction of harm from substance abuse.
Furthermore, the project demonstrates the concrete application of medical technology knowledge in community care, consistent with the Faculty’s vision to create innovations for developing public health, especially among youth who are vital national resources. It also provides schools with basic health information about students for use in planning care and reducing long-term health risk factors.
