KKU Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts Organises Thai–Korean Music and Performing Arts Exchange Programme SOUND SCENE SYNC Event Connects the Disciplines of Music and Performance, Fostering International Academic Collaboration.

On Thursday, 8 January 2026, at 14:00 hrs, at the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts Theatre, Khon Kaen University, the Department of Music and Performing Arts, Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, collaborated with the Han Dong Global University, Republic of Korea, to host an educational exchange focusing on music and performance instruction. Named “SOUND SCENE SYNC,” the activity aimed to promote international academic cooperation networks, develop capabilities in teaching, research, and facilitate professional and cultural exchange between the two nations.

The visiting delegation from Han Dong Global University was led by Dr. Koono Kim, Director of the RC Holistic Education Institution, and comprised over 100 faculty members and students from the Republic of Korea. In parallel, over 100 faculty members, students, and staff from Khon Kaen University’s Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts participated. The event also benefited from the cooperation of faculty and students from the Korean Language Department, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Khon Kaen University, who attended the performances and joined a Korean–Thai language workshop designed to simultaneously reinforce linguistic and cultural understanding.

The event was honoured by the presence of Assistant Professor Suksanti Wangwan, Assistant to the President for Arts, Culture, and Creative Economy, Khon Kaen University, who presided over the opening ceremony and delivered a welcome address to the Han Dong Global University delegates and participants.

Assistant Professor Suksanti stated: “Khon Kaen University places great importance on leveraging arts and culture as a fundamental mechanism for fostering mutual international learning. Art—particularly music and performance—serves as a universal language capable of deeply connecting people across different cultures. This SOUND SCENE SYNC activity is therefore not just a platform for exchanging academic and professional knowledge; it is also a space for friendship, cooperation, and the creation of shared artistic and cultural value between Thailand and the Republic of Korea.”

Furthermore, Associate Professor Burin Plengdeesakul, Dean of the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, offered his greetings and welcome to the Korean delegates. He added that Khon Kaen University is committed to developing its capabilities in teaching, research, and artistic creation, hand-in-hand with promoting the creative economy. He expressed his expectation that this exchange would lead to long-term academic cooperation, including student and faculty exchanges, joint creative projects and performances, and research integrating art, culture, and society for concrete community and national benefit. The Dean underscored the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts’ crucial role as a centre for creative learning, open to international exchanges of knowledge and culture.

For the performance section of the programme, Han Dong Global University presented five artistic sets:

  1. Chamber Ensemble
  2. Korean Traditional Dance
  3. Korean Folk Music
  4. Band
  5. Dance

The Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, Khon Kaen University, also presented two sets:

  1. A Chamber performance by students from the Western Music Department.
  2. Fawn Lueam Lai (Sparkling Pattern Dance) performance by students from the Folk Music and Dramatic Arts Department.

Following the performances, both parties engaged in a workshop exchange session. Grouped by specific interests, participants exchanged ideas, rehearsal processes, creative techniques, and cultural perspectives. This ensured a deep, immersive learning experience for faculty members and students from both countries.

The SOUND SCENE SYNC activity represents another significant milestone for the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, Khon Kaen University, in advancing its mission across education, arts and culture, and the creative economy on an international scale. It successfully established a robust network of cooperation, which promises to enhance academic potential and generate valuable creations for society in the future.
