From Local Wisdom to Global Reach: KKU Office of Academic Service Equips “Millionaire Bamboo Weaving Group” with Modern Sales Strategies

Khon Kaen – The Office of Academic Service, Khon Kaen University (KKU), is advancing the grassroots economy in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through the project “The Eco-Craft Marketer: Millionaire Bamboo Weaving to Online/Offline Sales Strategies.” Held on 18 February 2026 at the Millionaire Bamboo Weaving Enterprise Group in Khok Sung Subdistrict, Ubolratana District, Khon Kaen Province, the initiative aims to generate stable and sustainable income for group members while reducing economic inequality.

Ms. Pakapapa Vetchakit, Educator and Project Manager, stated that the bamboo weaving group in Ubolratana District possesses strong artisanal skills inherited over generations. However, the group is currently facing challenges due to a lack of effective marketing channels. Their reliance on middlemen has resulted in members receiving unfair income relative to the time and craftsmanship invested in production.

The activity was honoured by the presence of Ms. Pornsuda Lanok, Public Relations Officer at the Science Park, Khon Kaen University, along with a team of expert lecturers who shared their knowledge. The core activities of the project included:

  • Building an Online Identity: Training on creating and managing Facebook and TikTok pages to expand the customer base.
  • Modern Communication Techniques: Practising product photography using smartphones to create visually appealing images and writing captivating captions to attract consumers.
  • Integrated Sales Strategies: Developing marketing plans that link online and offline channels, including practical training in “Live Streaming” to allow group members to present actual products personally.

Furthermore, this project serves not only as academic service to society but also drives Khon Kaen University’s strategy in response to key Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically:

  • SDG 1: No Poverty – By enhancing new digital vocational skills to help villagers increase their income, reduce debt burdens, and escape the cycle of low income.
  • SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth – Promoting community employment and supporting small entrepreneurs to access wider markets through innovation and technology.
  • SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities – Breaking the cycle of middlemen and empowering communities to sell products directly, thereby genuinely distributing income to the grassroots level and reducing the opportunity gap between urban and rural societies.

The project holds the significant goal of fostering pride in local wisdom and promoting long-term community self-reliance. It is anticipated that the enterprise group will see an income increase of at least 3 per cent and be able to compete strongly in the modern market.
