Khon Kaen University Empowers Staff Mental Health Through Comprehensive Psychological First Aid Workshop

KKU organises a dedicated workshop to combat burnout and enhance mental resilience, promoting a sustainable “Happy Workplace” for all personnel.

Khon Kaen University, through the Student Development and Alumni Relations Division, has launched the “Mental Resilience Enhancement and Burnout Prevention for a Happy Organisation” workshop. The initiative aims to promote holistic well-being within the institution, encouraging staff to rejuvenate and equip themselves with essential mental health tools. The event featured a team of distinguished experts from the Mental Health Centre 7, Khon Kaen, who provided comprehensive insights into psychological care and cognitive strategies.

The opening ceremony took place on 7 May 2026, at Meeting Room 2, Student Activity Building. Associate Professor Pensri Jaroenwanit, Ph.D., Vice President for Student Affairs and Innovation Commercialisation, presided over the opening. The workshop was attended by more than 50 participants, including executives, faculty members, and mental health network personnel from various departments across the university.

In her opening remarks, Associate Professor Jaroenwanit emphasised that mental health is the fundamental cornerstone of institutional progress. “To care for others effectively, we must first ensure our own readiness—both in physical health and mental fortitude,” she stated. “When the mind is empowered, the body follows, allowing us to achieve our goals.” She further introduced the core concept of the event: “Change your mindset, and your life changes.” The Vice President highlighted that starting each day with self-encouragement and efficient time management—a valuable personal asset—generates the positive energy necessary for success in both professional and daily life.

“The University places the highest priority on mental health. We aspire to see both our students and staff achieve total physical and mental well-being,” Associate Professor Jaroenwanit added. “Stress is a natural response, but the key lies in how we manage it. This project equips our personnel with the cognitive skills to handle their own stress and the confidence to support others. This is a vital element in building a truly sustainable and happy organisation.”

The training session featured esteemed speakers from the Mental Health Centre 7, Khon Kaen, led by Dr Laksana Sakulthong, Deputy Director (and KKU Alumna). The team included Mrs Kulisara Pisal-ake, Senior Public Health Technical Officer, alongside Ms Siriwimol Chaiyamongkol and Ms Arrin Lakklarng, Public Health Technical Officers. The day-long programme included several practical activities:

  • Biofeedback Assessment: Analysing the physiological and psychological balance of participants with professional holistic health consultations.
  • “Resilience” Principles: Learning the “Endure, Exert, and Fight” (อึด ฮึด สู้) framework to strengthen mental resolve.
  • The “3L” Psychological First Aid: Training in the principles of Look, Listen, and Link (สอดส่องมองหา, ใส่ใจรับฟัง, ส่งต่อเชื่อมโยง) to provide initial assistance to those in distress.
  • Emotional and Stress Management: Practical techniques for coping with daily stressors and emotional regulation.

This workshop is a key component of the “KKU More Care” mission. By fostering a deep understanding of mental health care among staff, Khon Kaen University continues to build a robust foundation for a happy, resilient, and sustainable community.
