KKU Faculty of Science POSN Centre Achieves National Acclaim with 22 Major Awards at Thailand National Olympiads 2026

 

The student delegation secures 5 gold, 6 silver, 7 bronze medals, and 4 honourable mentions, underscoring the university’s academic excellence in secondary-level scientific development.

The Promotion of Olympic Science and Technology and Mathematics Education Foundation (POSN) Centre at the Faculty of Science, Khon Kaen University (KKU) has achieved exceptional national success at the Thailand National Olympiads 2026. The student representatives and team advisors delivered outstanding performances across multiple scientific disciplines, securing a total of 22 national decorations and reinforcing the academic standing of the northeastern region.

The 25th Thailand Physics Olympiad (#25thTPhO)

The competition took place from 29 March to 3 April 2026 at Burapha University. The POSN KKU Centre secured one silver medal and three honourable mentions:

  • Silver Medal: Mr. Makoto Miyoshi (Don Bosco Wittaya School)

  • Honourable Mentions: Ms. Panitpicha Boonmee (Pathumthep Pittayakarn School), Mr. Patcharapon Popranom (Khon Kaen University Demonstration School, Secondary Education – Sativitas), and Mr. Nathaphong Rungrojnimitchai (Khon Kaen University Demonstration School, Secondary Education – Sativitas)

  • Centre Representatives: Mr. Prat Phattanakhajorn (Khon Kaen University Demonstration School, Secondary Education – Mo Din Daeng) and Mr. Kachachart Boonnok (Udonpittayanukool School)

The 22nd Thailand Chemistry Olympiad (#TChO22)

Held from 3 to 7 April 2026 at Thaksin University, the delegation secured one gold, one silver, and two bronze medals:

  • Gold Medal: Mr. Pannathawan Lertwittayakul (Khon Kaen University Demonstration School, Secondary Education – Mo Din Daeng)

  • Silver Medal: Ms. Sorawee Amnuaywisetchoke (Khon Kaen University Demonstration School, Secondary Education – Sativitas)

  • Bronze Medals: Mr. Natchanon Sakhong (Khon Kaen University Demonstration School, Secondary Education – Sativitas) and Ms. Merisa Kaewarsa (Khon Kaen University Demonstration School, Secondary Education – Sativitas)

  • Centre Representatives: Mr. Chaloemchai Udomchai (Khon Kaen Wittayayon School) and Mr. Pranchon Suntivarakorn (Khon Kaen University Demonstration School, Secondary Education – Sativitas)

  • Team Advisors: Assistant Professor Praewpan Katsarun, Ph.D., Associate Professor Sira Sansuk, Ph.D., and Assistant Professor Kaesarin Ngamdee, Ph.D.

The 23rd Thailand Biology Olympiad (#23rdTBO)

Organised from 5 to 9 April 2026 at Mahidol University, the center earned one gold medal, two bronze medals, and a special regional accolade:

  • Gold Medal and Highest Score of the Northeastern Region Award: Mr. Kittisak Khunphet (Khon Kaen University Demonstration School, Secondary Education – Sativitas)

  • Bronze Medals: Ms. Chanoknan Somboonsap (Udonpittayanukool School) and Ms. Woranan Trongmattheerat (Khon Kaen University Demonstration School, Secondary Education – Sativitas)

  • Centre Representatives: Mr. Chayakorn Boonlert (Khon Kaen University Demonstration School, Secondary Education – Mo Din Daeng), Mr. Phongpipat Khampromma (Udonpittayanukool School), and Master Rachata Koraniyakit (Pathumthep Pittayakarn School)

The 23rd Thailand Astronomy Olympiad (#TAO23)

Hosted from 10 to 15 May 2026 at the Faculty of Science, Khon Kaen University, the host delegation achieved maximum standing, securing three gold, four silver, two bronze medals, and one honourable mention:

  • Gold Medal: Mr. Sorawit Laphphiseatphan (Khon Kaen University Demonstration School, Secondary Education – Mo Din Daeng)

  • Bronze Medal: Mr. Keerati Samakhan (Chumphon Phonphisai School)

  • Honourable Mention: Mr. Phusiri Ketsiri (Khon Kaen University Demonstration School, Secondary Education – Mo Din Daeng)

  • Centre Representatives: Master Kawin Yachaisri (Sakonraj Wittayanukul School) and Mr. Thanaphat Siridon (Princess Chulabhorn Science High School Loei)

  • Team Management: Assistant Professor On-Anong Muanwong, Ph.D., Assistant Professor Pimpoonwayat Thummeuangpak, Ph.D., Associate Professor Chakrit Pongkitivanichkul, Ph.D., Assistant Professor Chaiphong Ruangsuwan, Ph.D. (Department of Physics, KKU), Mrs. Pailom Chomphud (Chumphaesuksa School), and Mr. Wisarut Srilawong (Nongbua Pittayakharn School).

The 23rd Thailand Mathematical Olympiad (#TMO23)

Conducted from 15 to 19 May 2026 at Mahidol Wittayanusorn School, the team claimed a national bronze medal:

  • Bronze Medal: Master Peerawich Laoraowirod (Khon Kaen University Demonstration School, Secondary Education – Sativitas)

  • Centre Representatives: Mr. Kanthakorn Permthemsin, Mr. Jirat Papakhee, Mr. Thanaphat Phonsak, Mr. Pongsakorn Tapsri, and Mr. Peerawas Phumphoon, all from the Khon Kaen University Demonstration School.

  • Team Advisor: Assistant Professor Teerapol Sukhonwimolmal, Ph.D.
