Khon Kaen University Secures National CWIE Award 2026, Showcasing Global Potential of Its Undergraduates

A telecommunication engineering student earns national recognition for an AI-driven glaucoma screening innovation developed during an international work-integrated learning placement in South Korea.

Khon Kaen University (KKU) achieved national acclaim by winning an award at the National Outstanding Cooperative and Work-Integrated Education (CWIE) Awards 2026. The accolade was presented during the 16th Cooperative and Work-Integrated Education Day (16th CWIE DAY), held on 6 June 2026 at Naresuan University in Phitsanulok Province.

Assistant Professor Piyawat Saipan, Ph.D., Director of the Bureau of Academic Administration and Development at KKU, alongside Ms. Natcha Khamsiri, Head of the Curriculum and Cooperative Education Section, accompanied the university’s delegation to the event to receive the national prize.

Mr. That Decharat, an undergraduate student from the Department of Telecommunication Engineering (International Program) within the Faculty of Engineering, secured the Second Runner-up National Outstanding CWIE Project Award for International CWIE Program Students. He was honoured for his innovative project titled “AI-Assisted Oblique Flashlight Test for Narrow Angle Screening,” which utilizes artificial intelligence technology to screen for early-stage risks of primary angle-closure glaucoma.

This award-winning project was developed during Mr. Decharat’s international CWIE placement at Dongseo University in the Republic of Korea. His success underscores the capability of KKU students to effectively translate classroom knowledge into practical technological innovations that address public health challenges and gain recognition on a national platform.
