Khon Kaen University hosted a special lecture on May 8, 2025, aimed at transforming academic research and innovation into commercial successes, particularly through the University Holding Company model. The event, organized by the university’s Research and Innovation Department, sought to strengthen Thailand’s capacity for an innovation-driven economy.
Professor Dr. Pewpan Maleewong, Vice President for Research and Innovation at Khon Kaen University, inaugurated the session. She highlighted that in an era of rapid global economic, technological, and social shifts, sustainable development hinges on innovation, especially that originating from academic circles. Prof. Maleewong emphasized the university’s pivotal role in generating new knowledge, creating intellectual property, and bridging academic research with industrial and societal applications.
The keynote speaker, Mr. Rames Salporm, CEO of CU Enterprise, delivered a presentation titled “Research and Innovation for Commercial Utilization through the Promotion Policy of University Holding Company.” He discussed how University Holding Companies serve as a strategic mechanism to efficiently transfer university-developed innovations to the business sector, thereby fostering Innovation Driven Enterprises (IDEs) and creating opportunities for Thailand to achieve significant economic growth through innovation.
Prof. Maleewong added that the initiative aims to be a key platform for knowledge exchange, enhancing understanding of how University Holding Companies can genuinely commercialize research. This, she noted, would contribute to policy development and systematic support, enabling Thailand to sustainably leverage its academic strengths for increased economic value and resilience.
The lecture, held at the university’s Science Park Administration Building, drew considerable interest from researchers, business executives, academic leaders, and students, fostering extensive discussion on the topic. Also in attendance were Ms. Natsamol Tanakularungsarit, Vice President for Legal Affairs and Corporate Communications, and Associate Professor Dr. Jeeranuch Sanguansak, Assistant to the President for Research and Innovation, alongside numerous faculty deans, researchers, academics, and students.
