The Faculty of Nursing, Khon Kaen University, has partnered with leading educational institutions in four countries to send 18 third-year nursing students on international internships. The program, taking place from April to June 2025, aims to develop students’ potential through cross-cultural nursing experiences in Japan, China, Vietnam, and Norway.
The internship is part of the course International Nursing Experience, led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tiwawan Thepa, Head of the Midwifery Department, who also serves as the course director, with Dr. JuraiPorn Sampangthanon acting as the program coordinator.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tiwawan Thepa explained,
“This program is the result of a decade-long effort and is strongly supported by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ampornpan Kanbua, Dean of the Faculty of Nursing, who recognizes the importance of preparing students for international engagement. It also receives full support from Assoc. Prof. Dr. Somronpop Bunhanrak, Associate Dean for Research, Innovation, and International Affairs.”
The international nursing experience program is conducted in collaboration with six institutions across four countries:
- Guangxi University of Chinese Medicine, China – May 2025
- School of Nursing, University of Shizuoka, Japan – May 26 to June 6, 2025
- Fujita Health University, Japan – April 14 to 27, 2025
- Kumamoto Health Science University, Japan – June 2025
- Eastern International University, Vietnam – April 14 to May 10, 2025
- Molde University College, Norway – May 23 to 30, 2025
During their internships, students gained exposure to diverse healthcare systems, learning about elderly care, community health management, and the practice of modern nursing within advanced public health frameworks.
In addition to honing their clinical skills, students engaged in intellectual exchange with local faculty and healthcare professionals, fostering a deeper appreciation for cultural differences and expanding their international networks. These experiences are instrumental in shaping them into globally competent, professional nurses.
This initiative reflects the Faculty of Nursing’s vision to promote cross-cultural learning and develop global competencies, aligning with Khon Kaen University’s strategic goal to nurture “Global Learners” and strengthen international academic networks.
