KKU’s Warm Welcome to Freshmen – “Mor Kor Khai Hug Nong Mai Su Om Jai Nai Duean Hok”

(Welcome KKU Freshmen 2025 – A Heartfelt Embrace in the Sixth Month)

On June 17, 2025, Khon Kaen University hosted the Welcome KKU Freshmen 2025 event for its 62nd cohort of undergraduate students. The ceremony was presided over by Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., KKU President, alongside university executives and deans from all faculties. The event welcomed over 6,000 new students at the Golden Jubilee Convention Center, Khon Kaen University.

The welcome began with a symbolic entrance: students passed under and touched the word “Khon Kaen” carved on a wooden beam, representing their official entry into the university community. Following this, university executives took to the stage to warmly greet the students. The opening ceremony featured a special performance, “Bun Bang Fai Procession of the Sixth Lunar Month,” presented by students from the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts.

In his keynote speech, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul congratulated the new students, offering them guidance and encouragement:

“For over 62 years, Khon Kaen University has produced graduates who carry forward the university’s mission of service to society. Today, the Kalaphruek tree we cherish has flourished and spread its branches far and wide. You, as new students, should feel proud—your entry here speaks to your abilities, perseverance, and determination.”

He continued:

“University life is a new chapter. While it may seem like a life of freedom, in reality, it requires discipline—learning to manage oneself to achieve the goal of graduation as a KKU graduate. We hope you will apply your knowledge and experiences to benefit yourselves, your communities, and the world at large in a sustainable way.”  He concluded by welcoming the “62nd Kalaphruek Generation”, offering his blessings:

“We wish you happiness, strength, wisdom, and the determination to grow into fine representatives of KKU.”

Ms. Pijitra Klangpraphan (Puma), a first-year student in Medical Technology from Pathum Thani, shared her thoughts:

“I chose Khon Kaen University because of its strong reputation, especially in medical sciences. The warm welcome from seniors, the friendly environment, and rich local culture really impressed me. I love Isan traditions and fun atmospheres—this university truly fits me.”

She added:  “When I found out I got accepted, I was so happy. Today’s orientation is unlike anything I’ve ever seen—vibrant, exciting, and truly heartwarming. It makes starting this academic journey feel joyful.”

After the formal ceremony, KKU executives performed songs including “Reward for Dreamers,” “Isan Girl Waiting for Love,” and “Missing the Fields of Luilai.” The event continued with a mini concert by SAMUI, an artist under White Music, and concluded with a Mor Lam Idol x GMM Grammy performance, filling the venue with enthusiastic student attendees.

To ensure everyone’s safety, KKU arranged for the secure return of students to their dormitories after the concert.
