KKU Sparks Creative Thinking in AI with “KKU Prompt Battle 2025” – Final Round Set for July 15

The Learning and Teaching Innovation Center (LTIC) of Khon Kaen University organized the “KKU Prompt Battle 2025”, a creative competition focused on prompt writing for image and video generation using Generative AI. The qualifying round was held on July 4, 2025, at the Witthayawiphas 1 Conference Room, Faculty of Science, Khon Kaen University.

The opening ceremony was presided over by Asst. Prof. Denpong Soodphakdee, Ph.D., Vice President for Education and Digital, with Asst. Prof. Anucha Somabut, Ph.D., Assistant to the President for Education, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wattana Pattanagul, Director of Learning and Teaching Innovation Center, and Prof. Wanida Kanarkard, Vice Dean for Research, Innovation, and International Affairs, Faculty of Engineering, also in attendance. The event welcomed over 150 student participants.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wattana Pattanagul noted that the competition aims to promote Generative AI knowledge and skills among students—technologies that are central to the digital transformation era. The initiative reinforces KKU’s commitment to preparing graduates to thrive in a rapidly changing world.

In his remarks, Asst. Prof. Denpong Soodphakdee emphasized that Generative AI opens new creative opportunities for students to design and present content through images and videos—skills that are increasingly relevant in education and the modern workplace. He encouraged students to engage with technology creatively, responsibly, and purposefully as they prepare to enter the digital society with confidence.

Prior to the competition, participants also benefited from a special lecture by Prof. Wanida Kanarkard, who shared professional techniques for AI-based image and video generation to inspire and empower contestants.

The qualifying round was filled with enthusiasm, with students from various academic years participating. The judging panel featured experts across science, technology, and the arts, including Prof. Wanida Kanarkard, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wattana Pattanagul, and Dr. Pat Kotchapakdee, Assistant to the Dean for International and Communication Affairs, Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts. Ten finalist teams were selected to advance to the final round.

One contestant, Ms. Suthinan Lamlong, a third-year student from the College of Computing, shared her experience:“I saw the competition announcement on social media and decided to join because I wanted to seriously explore video creation using Generative AI. The workshops taught us how to write effective prompts—setting scenes, camera angles, tools, and more. It gave me a clearer picture of the creative process.”

Ms. Suthinan teamed up with Ms. Patthinyaporn Kaenchan to create a video envisioning Khon Kaen University 100 years into the future. Their project featured 3D holographic renderings of key locations such as the College of Computing, Golden Jubilee Convention Hall, and Srinagarind Hospital’s medical innovations. They used platforms like Google Veo, Kling, and Pixel AI to complete the production.

“We were thrilled to make it to the finals. I’m really thankful to KKU for providing this platform where we could grow creatively and apply what we learned both inside and outside the classroom,” she said. “It helped sharpen my analysis and creativity—skills I can apply in class or future career paths.”

The KKU Prompt Battle 2025 reflects the university’s commitment to promoting digital literacy and lifelong learning in response to the age of artificial intelligence. The initiative encourages students to use technology creatively and purposefully. The finalists will compete in the grand finale on July 15, 2025.
