Khon Kaen University Demonstration School Conducts Crime Prevention and Risk Management Drill

On Friday, August 15, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Khon Kaen University Demonstration School — including the Kindergarten, Elementary, Secondary, and International Divisions — organized a school crime prevention and risk management activity in collaboration with Mueang Khon Kaen Police Station, the Security Division of Khon Kaen University, and the Department of Emergency Medicine at Srinagarind Hospital. The activity featured an active shooter response drill, which was conducted smoothly and demonstrated excellent preparedness among students and staff.

Asst. Prof. Sarawut Jakpeng, Ph.D., Director of Khon Kaen University Demonstration School, emphasized that the school places great importance on preventive measures to reduce risks, particularly crimes within schools. The aim of the drill was to prepare students, staff, parents, and security officers to respond effectively in dangerous situations, raising awareness of safety and survival techniques. Students at every level were given the opportunity to practice how to remain calm, act promptly, and respond correctly in line with professional principles. The director expressed gratitude for the cooperation of all partner organizations, which ensured the success of the training.

Pol. Col. Yosawat Kaewsuebthanyanich, Superintendent of Mueang Khon Kaen Police Station, explained that incidents of mass shootings in public places have become increasingly frequent in America and Europe and are now also emerging more often in Asia, with three cases already reported in Thailand. He stressed that regular drills by organizations, government agencies, and private institutions are crucial in reducing loss of life and property. The training provided students with survival techniques, teaching them how to act while waiting for the police to arrive. For young children, the focus was on the principles of running to safety, finding secure places to hide, and remaining silent to avoid detection. For adults, an additional option of fighting back was highlighted as a last resort, only when escape or hiding is no longer possible.

Parents also expressed their appreciation for the initiative. Mr. Suriyan Suphap, a parent of a student in the Kindergarten Division, said he felt reassured that the school places such importance on safety drills. While no one wishes for such a situation to occur, he noted that the training ensures children will know the correct way to respond and survive. He thanked the school administrators and teachers for their commitment in organizing the activity.
