Khon Kaen University Targets International OECD GLP Standard for Animal Research Center

KHON KAEN – The Northeastern Laboratory Animal Center at Khon Kaen University is advancing its goal to achieve Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) certification.

On August 4, 2025, the center hosted a workshop on “Management and Preparation of a Test Facility for OECD GLP Certification.” The training was led by experts from the Thailand Center of Excellence for Life Sciences (TCELS) and Mahidol University’s National Laboratory Animal Center, who provided consultation to prepare the facility for the rigorous certification process.

Dr. Nichapa Saensurin, Acting Deputy Director of the center, welcomed the visiting specialists. The initiative, supported by TCELS and Mahidol University, is part of a strategic push to elevate the center’s service quality to international standards.

Achieving OECD GLP certification will enhance the center’s capabilities in pre-clinical testing, ensuring that products tested at the facility gain international acceptance. The university aims to establish the center as a regional hub for researchers, entrepreneurs, and industrial partners, with a target of receiving the certification by the 2026 fiscal year.

This effort aligns with Khon Kaen University’s vision of becoming “A World-Leading Research and Development University.” The university stated that obtaining the OECD GLP standard is a key step that not only confirms international quality but also contributes to the country’s social and economic progress.
