KKU Drives ‘SMART Plus Sharing’ Initiative to Embed Core Values in Second Year

Khon Kaen University’s Human Resources Division hosted the “SMART Plus Sharing” project on August 27, 2025, advancing its organization-wide campaign to integrate core values into daily operations. The event, held at the 50th Anniversary Engineering Building, brought together 300 university executives, committee members, and staff to share best practices and promote the practical application of the university’s “SMART” values.

The project aims to build on the foundation laid in the initiative’s first year by creating a forum for different departments to exchange knowledge and drive the adoption of these values. This aligns with the university’s strategic goal of transforming human resource management and fostering a success-oriented culture.

Asst. Prof. Dr. Patrawit Polpinit, Vice President for Human Resources, stated that the initial launch of the SMART values a year ago was met with strong cooperation, with departments applying the principles across teaching, research, and community service.

“This year, we are moving forward with SMART Plus Sharing, focusing on translating awareness into concrete action,” Dr. Polpinit explained. “We are defining observable behaviors—both desirable and undesirable—that can be measured. Departments are encouraged to integrate the SMART framework with their own unique identities, such as the Faculty of Agriculture’s ‘AG-SMART’ model, to further enhance our organization.”

The university’s core “SMART” values are:

  • S = Social Devotion
  • M = Management by Fact
  • A = Achieving Customer Excellence
  • R = Responsibility & Good Governance
  • T = Technology & Innovation Focus

Mr. Sathit Kaewbudda, Director of the Human Resources Division, added, “This project is a platform for driving and disseminating the SMART values. The goal is not for everyone to simply memorize the acronym, but to put it into practice. We are also clearly outlining the ‘Do’s and Don’ts’ to create a sustainable SMART culture throughout the university.”

Participants found the second-year event to be highly effective.

Ms. Thapanee Prapaimueang, a human resources officer from the Faculty of Associated Medical Sciences, commented, “Today’s project supports the university’s positive values. Compared to last year, there is greater clarity. We now have a better understanding of our roles and are ready to act according to the SMART PLUS model. The atmosphere was welcoming, and the examples shared by other faculties were excellent learning opportunities.”

The SMART Plus Sharing initiative is a leadership-driven effort designed to raise awareness and promote the practical application of the university’s core “SMART” values. The program serves as a platform for different departments to exchange knowledge on implementing these values. The intended outcome is for all personnel and executives to understand the importance of the values and to be able to apply them in a concrete and sustainable manner.
