Khon Kaen University Computer College Congratulates Team TheApen for Winning Recognition at GeoSpark Hackathon with Innovative Geoinformatics Project

The College of Computing, Khon Kaen University, proudly congratulates Team TheApen for receiving an Honorable Mention at the GeoSpark Hackathon, under the theme “Geoinformatics Innovation Driving the Economy of the Future.” The competition was organized by the Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (GISTDA) as a platform to showcase innovative ideas for applying geoinformatics data to drive national economic development. The final round took place on September 10, 2025, at Vibhavadee Ballroom C, Centara Grand at Central Plaza Ladprao, Bangkok.

Team TheApen, comprised of Mr. Apinat Chankhiew and Ms. Panida Kulnantakarn, second-year students from the Bachelor of Geoinformatics program, earned an Honorable Mention and a cash prize of 20,000 THB for their project entitled “ThaiSphere: From Data to Decision.”

Mr. Apinat Chankhiew shared his thoughts on the achievement:

“The highlight of our project lies in its flexibility—transforming index data into spatial decision-making, integrating datasets from multiple agencies into a single platform, and offering user-friendly applications. We were delighted and proud to receive this award. However, we also recognize the need to further improve and develop the project. We would like to sincerely thank our advisor, Asst. Prof. Dr. Saran Apichontrakool, for his academic guidance and support. We were also able to apply the knowledge gained from Khon Kaen University, ranging from spatial thinking to in-depth geographical expertise.”

The College of Computing takes pride in this achievement and believes that the creativity and practical application of geoinformatics showcased in this project will play an important role in driving Thailand’s economy and society forward in the future.
