Khon Kaen University Hosts National Security Youth Empowerment Project with Army Commander

Khon Kaen University (KKU) recently organized the “Youth Empowerment for National Security” project, featuring a special lecture by Lieutenant General Boonsin Padklang, Commander of the 2nd Army Area. The event, held on September 16, 2025, at the Golden Jubilee Convention Center, drew approximately 5,000 attendees, including university executives, faculty, staff, students, military cadets, representatives from government and private sectors, media, and the general public.

Lieutenant General Boonsin Padklang commander of the 2nd Army Area,  delivered a special address titled “Stories from General Kung: From the Frontline to the Homefront, Building the Power of Unity.” He was welcomed by  Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., President of Khon Kaen University. Major General Atthachai Raksasil, Commander of the 21st Military Circle, and Major General Kittipong Nuangchompoo, Commander of the 23rd Military Circle, also attended the event. The proceedings were broadcast live via YouTube, Facebook, and Khon Kaen University Radio FM 103 MHz.

The event also featured cultural performances, including music by the KKU Band and Sripatcharin Band, a choir performance by Khon Kaen University Demonstration School, and a sing-along of royal compositions to promote unity and national pride. An academic exhibition showcased Khon Kaen University’s innovations, such as a lithium-ion battery prototype factory, and engineering faculty projects like “Unmanned Aerial Systems (Drones) and AI Technology,” “Bulletproof Silk Cocoon Vests,” and “Explosion-Reducing Footwear.” A Q&A session allowed students, cadets, and the public to engage directly with Lieutenant General Boonsin.

The project aimed to foster a sense of national security and promote collaboration among youth. In his welcoming remarks, President Charnchai expressed honor in hosting Lieutenant General Boonsin, emphasizing the university’s commitment to inspiring strength and positive energy within society through such initiatives.

Lieutenant General Boonsin’s lecture underscored four key points:

1. Protection of Sovereignty: He reiterated the constitutional duty of Thai soldiers to safeguard national security, even at the cost of their lives, citing experiences from border situations.
2. Communication with Youth: He encouraged students to cultivate patriotism, respect for religion and the monarchy, dedication to their studies, and to become good members of society.
3. Dangers of Social Media: He warned against the risks of misinformation and sensitive security data being exploited by ill-intentioned individuals, urging responsible use of social media.
4. Emotional Control: Sharing personal experiences, he highlighted the importance of mindfulness and reason in decision-making during crises, particularly when commanding troops and impacting national affairs, and the use of Buddhist principles to manage morale and stress.

Attendees shared their positive impressions.

Students from Khon Kaen University Demonstration School (Secondary Section) found the lecture inspiring, noting how it instilled patriotism and pride in the military profession through stories of courage and unity. They were also impressed by the military technology innovations displayed.

Ms. Priyachat Nawasri, a first-year Public Administration student Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Khon Kaen University found the lecture highly impactful, gaining insights into national security, military affairs, and patriotic ideals. She intends to apply this knowledge to her studies and life, fostering a spirit of sacrifice, compassion, and community service.

Asst. Prof. Dr. Rungarun Boonsayan, Chair of the Master of Public Administration program Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Khon Kaen University commented that border situations, such as those between Thailand and Cambodia, highlight the bravery and sacrifice of soldiers. She commended Lieutenant General Boonsin for continuing to serve the nation even after retirement through his new role, not only by providing understanding and encouragement but also by awakening patriotism in the younger generation and guiding them towards becoming civic-minded volunteers. Dr. Rungarun stressed the critical importance of national awareness, citing global conflicts as a reminder for Thais to live mindfully and contribute to nation-building.

The “Youth Empowerment for National Security” project served as an inspiring platform for out-of-classroom learning, fostering a sense of national security and unity, and reflecting Khon Kaen University’s role in strengthening the community and society.
