Faculty of Technology, Khon Kaen University joins “Thailand Zero Food Waste Forum 2025” to drive sustainable circular economy through food waste reduction

On October 8, 2025, from 09:00 to 12:00 hrs, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chantima Phungamngern, Associate Dean for Strategy and Corporate Communication, together with Asst. Prof. Dr. Patimakorn Klaiprasit and students from the Faculty of Technology, Khon Kaen University (KKU), participated in the “Thailand Zero Food Waste Forum 2025: United to Reduce, Create Value, and Turn Challenges into Opportunities.”

The event was organized by CP Axtra Public Company Limited in collaboration with Bangkok Biz News to strengthen nationwide cooperation in reducing food waste and transforming waste into value-added resources toward a sustainable circular economy. The forum took place at the Auditorium, 6th Floor, True Digital Park (East), Bangkok.

The forum brought together leaders from government agencies, the private sector, and academia to share insights and strategies for driving Thailand’s national agenda toward the goal of “Zero Food Waste.”

The opening ceremony featured Ms. Siriporn Detsingh, Chief Sustainability and Corporate Communications Officer of CP Axtra Public Company Limited, and Mr. Suphachai Chearavanont, Chief Executive Officer of Charoen Pokphand Group, who delivered a keynote address titled “From Global Challenges to Local Solutions: Driving Thailand toward Zero Waste through the Power of Collaboration.”

During the session, Mr. Chatree Atjananan, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Environmental Quality Promotion, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, presented the “Thailand Roadmap toward Zero Food Waste.”

This was followed by a panel discussion on “Creating Value from Food Waste to Support a Circular Economy,” featuring distinguished speakers from multiple sectors, including Dr. Thanit Changthaworn, Director of the Biodiversity-Based Economy Development Office (BEDO); Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chantima Phungamngern, Associate Dean for Strategy and Corporate Communication, Faculty of Technology, KKU; Mr. Prem Supboonlertma, Manager of Sustainability Activities and Corporate Relations; Ms. Siriporn Detsingh, Chief Sustainability and Corporate Communications Officer, CP Axtra Public Company Limited; and Ms. Nutchakanya Limsuwattana, cricket farmer from Siwaphon Farm.

In her remarks, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chantima Phungamngern emphasized the Faculty of Technology’s role as the “downstream” component in the food value chain, applying food processing innovations to reduce food waste.

She also discussed the faculty’s research and innovation in utilizing Black Soldier Fly (BSF) larvae — which contain 40–60% protein — as an alternative raw material for animal feed production.

“In the commercial sector, BSF-based food products for human consumption are still limited due to existing regulations. However, there is high potential for their use in animal feed. As a faculty, we are committed to developing knowledge and innovations to extend this work, including organizing a student innovation contest on food waste reduction with kind support from CP and Lotus’s. This serves as a platform for students to showcase creativity and contribute to society,” said Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chantima.

Participation in this national forum reflects the Faculty of Technology’s strong commitment to translating academic and research knowledge into practical solutions for social and environmental challenges—particularly in food waste management, one of the key Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of Thailand.

The “Thailand Zero Food Waste Forum 2025” stands as an important milestone in fostering collaboration among the public sector, private organizations, and academic institutions to transform food waste into opportunity and to promote a resource-conscious, sustainable Thai society.
