Khon Kaen University Organizes Tree Planting Activity on the National Annual Tree Loving Day 2025 in Honor of the Princess Mother — Fostering Sustainable Environmental Awareness

On October 21, 2025, Khon Kaen University organized a Tree Planting Activity in Celebration of the National Annual Tree Loving Day 2025 to honor Her Royal Highness Princess Srinagarindra, the Princess Mother, who was a lifelong advocate for nature conservation and the preservation of Thailand’s forests. The event was presided over by Assoc. Prof. Pensri Jaroenwanit, Ph.D., Vice President for Student Affairs and Innovation Commercialization, with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Praphansak Chawirach, Assistant to the President for Student Affairs and Innovation Commercialization, together with faculty members, student volunteers, KKU personnel, and representatives from external organizations including the 23rd Military Circle, Sri Patcharin Camp, and the Lup Prasong Foundation for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation Center. The ceremony took place at the Luang Pho Khun Memorial, Northeastern Buddhism Park, Khon Kaen University.

The activity aimed to honor the Princess Mother’s dedication to environmental stewardship and to raise awareness among all sectors about the importance of trees in sustaining life, restoring green spaces, and preserving natural resources. It also sought to encourage participation in reforestation and environmental conservation efforts for the benefit of local communities and the nation.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pensri Jaroenwanit stated that Khon Kaen University remains committed to the royal initiatives of conserving natural resources and the environment for long-term sustainability in Thailand.

“Participating in this meaningful activity marks an important starting point in fostering environmental awareness. At a time when Thailand and the world are facing climate change, deforestation, and environmental degradation that affect people’s quality of life, this tree planting effort is not only about expanding green spaces but also about cultivating environmental consciousness among our students and staff. It aligns with the University’s Green Policy and reinforces the shared responsibility for a sustainable future,” said the Vice President.

The event was organized under the university’s student identity concept “EGGS”, emphasizing the characteristics of Sustainable-focused and Growth-oriented individuals. It aims to inspire students and staff to develop environmental responsibility while growing into well-rounded citizens who contribute positively to society. The activity also aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 15: Life on Land and SDG 13: Climate Action, as part of Khon Kaen University’s ongoing Zero Carbon initiative.

This activity reflects KKU’s strong commitment to advancing knowledge and instilling environmental consciousness among students, in line with the mission of the KKU Soft Skills Academy to promote life skills and experiential learning, preparing students to achieve the holistic development envisioned in the EGGS identity framework.
