The Student Affairs and Alumni Relation Division, Khon Kaen University (KKU), in collaboration with the 23rd Military District (23MD) and the Mental Health Center 7 Khon Kaen, organised the “Music for Mood” event. The activity provided a space for students and staff to relieve stress while commemorating the profound royal benevolence of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother. The event took place at the KKU Morecare Centre activity area, Student Affairs and Alumni Relation Division.
The opening ceremony was presided over by Assoc. Prof. Pensri Jaroenwanit, Ph.D., Vice President for Student Affairs and Innovation Commercialization. Also in attendance were Colonel Piya Nongchana, Chief of Staff of the 23rd Military District, and Mrs. Siriporn Phutthiphornophat, Director of the Mental Health Center 7 Khon Kaen. The event attracted over 150 students and staff.
In her address, Associate Professor Pensri Jaroenwanit spoke of the deep historical bond between Her Majesty The Queen Mother and Khon Kaen University. This relationship began when Her Majesty accompanied the King in 1967 to officially open the University and plant a commemorative Kalapruek tree. Her Majesty later granted degree certificates to graduates, an act of grace that created immeasurable appreciation among the KKU community.
The event commenced with a candle-lighting ceremony to honour the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX) in remembrance of “The Monarch Who Has Departed to Heaven.” The Sri Patcharin Band from the 23rd Military District (Sri Patcharin Camp) performed the Royal Composition, “Blueday” (Āthit Āpsaeng), creating an atmosphere thick with grief and high emotion. This was followed by a moving lyrical recitation of condolences delivered by Mr. Phuwadol Phuyohat and Miss Sunisa Wirajan, recipients of the Sri Kalapruek Award for Thai Arts and Culture.
The event also featured informational activities on physical and mental health care provided by the Mental Health Center 7 Khon Kaen, led by Director Siriport Phutthiphornophat. These sessions aimed to equip students with proper stress management techniques. In addition, there were creative activities, including a “Desserts of Happiness” booth and a volunteer activity for making bows.
The “Music for Mood” event successfully blended mental health promotion with the commemoration of royal benevolence. Music served as a medium to comfort participants and inspire positive emotional energy, ensuring that the profound royal benevolence will be permanently etched in the hearts of the Khon Kaen University community.
