Khon Kaen University Expands Data Dashboard Project to Songkhla and Chiang Rai

Khon Kaen University (KKU), in partnership with the Office of the Public Sector Development Commission (OPDC), has developed and delivered an intelligent data management tool to two pilot provinces, Songkhla and Chiang Rai. The “Provincial Data Dashboard” aims to drive their transformation into sustainable, data-driven provinces, aligning with the university’s mission of social devotion and supporting the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The project’s success was presented in both provinces. On October 31, 2025, the research team from KKU’s Smart City Operation Center (SCOPC), led by Director Prof. Dr. Wanida Kanark, demonstrated the system to senior executives at the Songkhla Provincial Hall. This was followed by a presentation in Chiang Rai on November 3, 2025, where Prof. Dr. Kanark was joined by fellow researcher Assoc. Prof. Dr. Supasit Konyai. Both events were chaired by Maitri Inthusut, Chairman of the working group for enhancing integrated provincial administration.

The Provincial Data Dashboard is designed as a central data hub that collects and analyzes key provincial information. Its scope includes budget management, tourism, support for vulnerable households, drug enforcement, disaster management, and waste management. The system enables senior administrators to make accurate and timely policy decisions based on reliable data.

This innovation directly corresponds with KKU’s strategy to address several SDGs:

  • SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities): By improving urban and disaster management.
  • SDG 1 & 10 (No Poverty & Reduced Inequalities): Through data analysis to provide targeted solutions for vulnerable households.
  • SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions): By providing a transparent and efficient tool for government agencies.
  • SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals): Reflecting the strong collaboration between KKU, the OPDC, and the two pilot provinces.

“This project clearly reflects Khon Kaen University’s mission to use Big Data knowledge and innovation to create tangible tools that solve the country’s real-world problems,” the SCOPC research team stated. “This is the heart of modern academic service—co-creating change and improving people’s quality of life in line with sustainable development goals.”

The successful delivery of the dashboard is viewed not just as a technological handover but as a reinforcement of Khon Kaen University’s role as a “University for Social Development,” ready to apply its expertise to address national challenges.
