Srinagarind Hospital Elevates Diabetes Care to a “KKU Center of Excellence for Diabetes,” Adopting a Full One-Stop Service Model and Multidisciplinary Integration

Srinagarind Hospital, Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University (KKU), is advancing its potential in comprehensive and systematic diabetes management by establishing the KKU Center of Excellence for Diabetes. This centre aims to accommodate the increasing number of diabetes patients, meet the demand for high-quality services, and elevate health outcomes for the public in the Northeastern region and surrounding areas.

Assistant Professor Suranut Charoensri, M.D., an endocrinologist and metabolism specialist at Srinagarind Hospital, Faculty of Medicine, stated that the CoE emphasises patient-centered care. This approach integrates the expertise of a comprehensive multidisciplinary team, including specialised physicians in endocrinology and metabolism, Advanced Practice Nurses (APN) in diabetes care, pharmacists, nutritionists, physiotherapists, and health promotion staff. Together, they collaboratively plan treatment and health management tailored to individual needs, enabling patients to effectively manage their blood sugar levels, reduce the risk of complications, and enhance long-term quality of life.

“Under the One-Stop Service model, patients with complex diabetes referred from various departments can receive assessment, diagnosis, nutritional consultation, medication adjustment, screening for various complications—such as diabetic retinopathy or diabetic foot ulcers—and self-care advice all in one location. This substantially reduces time and procedural steps, increasing the convenience of accessing high-standard medical services,” explained Asst. Prof. Charoensri.

Furthermore, the Center is committed to developing diabetes innovations alongside promoting knowledge among personnel and the public. This includes organising training to enhance the competency of nurses in diabetes care and providing public education during the annual World Diabetes Day event. These activities ensure that patients can sustain their self-management and continuously improve the quality of life for people in the Northeastern region.

This KKU Center of Excellence for Diabetes is a vital part of Srinagarind Hospital’s mission to develop its healthcare system to meet international standards, serving as a leader in services, teaching, and health research. The Hospital continues its journey towards becoming a comprehensive regional hub for diabetes care.

The service is available at Internal Medicine Examination Room No. 8 every Friday, from 08:30 to 12:00 hrs.
