Khon Kaen University Co-Hosts Royal Funeral Chanting (Phee Bamphen Kusol Suat Phra Abhidhamma) in 30-Day Period to Commemorate Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother

On 18 November 2568 (2025), Khon Kaen University (KKU), led by Mrs. Natsamol Tanakulrungsarit, Vice President for Legal and Communications, presided over a merit-making ceremony (Phra Abhidhamma Chanting) dedicated to the Royal Merit of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother. The ceremony was held to demonstrate loyalty and to commemorate Her Majesty’s profound and boundless royal benevolence.

Associate Professor Orathai Piayura, Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, along with KKU administrators and staff, attended the ceremony.

The attendees observed the mourning rite with the highest respect and solemnity. Government officials wore their white ceremonial uniforms with mourning armbands, while the general public wore modest, polite mourning attire. All participants came together to express their profound sorrow and unwavering loyalty to Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother.

The ceremony commenced at 16:30 hrs. The presiding Vice President lit incense and candles to pay homage to the Triple Gem (Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha) and proceeded to light the Khrueang Thong Noi (small gold offering set) before the Royal Image of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother. Following this, incense and candles were lit at the ceremonial offerings cabinet (Tukkroeng Nammatsakan) positioned in front of the Phra Abhidhamma (Abhidhamma) casket. Four monks chanted the Dharma verses.

Upon the conclusion of the chanting, an official spread the white cloth supporting the connecting thread (Saeo Yoang) and the cloth of offering (Pha Phusa Yoang). The presiding Vice President then presented the Pha Bangsakul (a special offering cloth for the deceased). Subsequently, the monks performed the Sodappakorn (receiving the offerings) and gave their Anumotana (blessings), after which the Vice President poured purifying water (Kruat Nam) to dedicate the merit to Her Royal Highness.

Khon Kaen Province, in collaboration with the Khon Kaen Provincial Monastic Command, organised the official merit-making ceremony dedicated to the Royal Merit of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother. The rites are being held over a 30-day period, from Sunday, 26 October 2568, to Monday, 24 November 2568, to commemorate Her Majesty’s boundless benevolence.

Khon Kaen University co-hosted the Royal Funeral Chanting ceremonies on 3 November 2568 and 18 November 2568. The KKU community profoundly recognises and commemorates Her Majesty’s immense royal benevolence and graceful, noble royal conduct, which will forever remain enshrined in the hearts of the people.
