Srinagarind Hospital Organises Training on ‘Approach to Managing Child Maltreatment’ to Enhance Readiness of Interdisciplinary Teams in Comprehensive Child and Family Care

On 19 November 2025, Srinagarind Hospital, Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University, organised an academic training session titled “Approach to Managing Child Maltreatment at Srinagarind Hitospal.” The aim was to develop the potential of personnel involved in caring for children, women, men, and families who have experienced violence, including physical abuse, psychological abuse, and sexual abuse.

The event was honoured by the presence of Associate Professor Khacharin Phoonnikom, Deputy Director for Medical Affairs, who presided over the opening ceremony. Associate Professor Rotwan Areeimit, Chair of the Child, Women and Family Rights Protection Project, reported on the project’s objectives, which focus on fostering knowledge and collaborative networks to provide comprehensive assistance to high-risk patients.

Associate Professor Rotwan Areeimit, Chair of the Child, Women and Family Rights Protection Project, explained that Srinagarind Hospital has developed a seamless One Stop Service system for patients facing violence. This system operates via an interdisciplinary team comprising specialist physicians, nurses, psychologists, and social workers. Furthermore, it leverages external networks, including the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office, the Provincial Office of Social Development and Human Security (SDHS), the Provincial Public Health Office, police stations, community hospitals, and the Child Rights Protection Foundation, among others. This robust partnership ensures that assistance is provided rapidly, accurately, and with the utmost confidentiality for the patient.

The training covered three critical topics:

  1. Child Maltreatment: From Theory to Practice
  2. Sexual Abuse: Common Issues and Management Approaches
  3. Maltreatment: Problem Analysis and Solutions within the Hospital Context

The participants included physicians, nurses, medical personnel, and medical students. The training format integrated lectures with practical workshops.

Associate Professor Khacharin Phoonnikom, who presided over the opening ceremony, stated that the knowledge gained from this training would equip personnel to provide appropriate and effective care to children and families who have suffered violence. She emphasised the vital importance of collaboration among the interdisciplinary team and network partners at every level.
