Faculty of Technology, KKU advances “Vacuum-Fried Purple Sweet Potato Chips” technology to industrial production in Lao PDR, driving forward commercial innovation.

On 4 December 2025, from 09:00 to 16:00, the Faculty of Technology, Khon Kaen University, joined forces with Thai-Global Organic Co., Ltd. in a research and development project on “Vacuum-Fried Purple Sweet Potato Chips.” The collaboration focuses on designing production processes and establishing an industrial-scale production line for SUPAWAT Group Sole Co., Ltd., Lao PDR, representing a concrete advancement of academic knowledge toward commercial application. Subsequently, SUPAWAT Group Sole Co., Ltd. installed machinery and a production line based on the design proposed by the Faculty of Technology to prepare for full-scale manufacturing.

Asst. Prof. Dr. Araya Chaoruangrit, Dean of the Faculty of Technology, together with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jantima Phungamngern, the lead researcher behind the product development, conducted an on-site inspection of the machinery and production system at the SUPAWAT Group Sole Co., Ltd. fruit-processing facility located in Xaythany District, Vientiane Capital, Lao People’s Democratic Republic.

The research team also provided recommendations for improving the production process to enhance efficiency, product consistency, and overall manufacturing standards, strengthening the company’s readiness to expand into the regional food industry market.

This collaboration highlights the role of the Faculty of Technology, Khon Kaen University, in driving research toward economic and social utilization under its vision of being “a leading organization in creating innovations for society and commercialization.” It aligns with the OKR24 target on strengthening partnerships with institutions in the GMS countries, and supports SDG2: Zero Hunger, contributing to sustainable food security.
