KKU Faculty of Law Hosts Law Night Market 2025, Emphasising Sustainable University Concept

The annual event integrates legal knowledge with sustainable development goals to drive Khon Kaen University’s transition into a Green University.

Khon Kaen University continues to advance its sustainability agenda through the Law Night Market 2025: Sustainable University, organised by the Faculty of Law, Khon Kaen University in collaboration with the Office of the Vice President for Enterprise and Societal Sustainability. The event was held on 24–25 December 2025 at the Faculty of Law, Khon Kaen University.

The opening ceremony was presided over by Thidarut Boonmars, Vice President for Enterprise and Societal Sustainability, together with Wanida Saengsanphan, Dean of the Faculty of Law, and attended by a large number of law students.

The Faculty of Law initiated the Green Law for Sustainable Communities (GLSC) project, aiming to foster a network dedicated to green law for sustainable communities. The primary objectives of the event and the project are to drive KKU’s transition towards becoming a Sustainable University and to integrate Green Law principles to create a liveable campus community. Furthermore, the initiative seeks to establish a learning space centred on law and sustainable development, encompassing responses to climate change, environmental issues, and social inequality.

Associate Professor Wanida Saengsanphan, Dean of the Faculty of Law, stated that the Law Night Market 2025 successfully integrated legal knowledge with sustainable development goals. This was crucial for raising awareness among students and the wider university community about their role in driving KKU towards becoming a Green University.“Through learning, exchange, and the creation of legal innovations that address environmental and social challenges, we are building capacity,” Associate Professor Saengsanphan noted. “The event also served as a vital platform for students to demonstrate their potential and creativity in designing legal measures for sustainability.”

Professor Thidarut Boonmars, Vice President for Enterprise and Societal Sustainability, emphasised that the initiative reflects Khon Kaen University’s commitment to achieving sustainability in all dimensions: environmental, social, and economic.

“The participation of law students in devising legal measures and policies to address changing contexts is a significant force in moving the university and society towards sustainable development goals,” Professor Thidarut stated. She encouraged all students to utilise the knowledge and experience gained from this activity for future work and societal development.

Mr. Phachonthanai Patthaphong, a student from the Faculty of Law and the overall winner of both competition categories, shared his experience. He stated that participating in the event provided new perspectives on how legal knowledge could be applied concretely to solve environmental and social problems.  “I was able to exchange ideas with students from various year groups and learn creative thinking processes necessary to design appropriate legal measures within the university context,” Mr. Patthaphong explained. “I intend to build upon this knowledge and apply the experience gained in my future professional career.”

The Law Night Market 2025 featured a wide range of activities, including panel discussions on “SDGs Young Creator: The Role of Students in Environmental and Social Responsibility” and “Sustainable Development Implementation: Challenges and Balancing Social, Economic, and Environmental Dimensions.” Exhibitions on laws governing local alcohol production and beverage control, musical performances, and booths operated by student clubs and community enterprises added to the event’s vibrant atmosphere.
