KKU Receives ISO/IEC 27001:2022 Certification for Cybersecurity, Elevating Information Standards to International Level

Khon Kaen University’s Digital Technology Office Gains Prestigious Accreditation for Central IT Infrastructure.

On 8 January 2026, the Digital Technology Office (DTO) of Khon Kaen University (KKU) hosted the official certification ceremony for the ISO/IEC 27001:2022 standard in Information Security Management.

The ceremony was presided over by Associate Professor Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., President of Khon Kaen University. Also in attendance were Ms. Papakorn Soponbulporn, representative from the British Standards Institution (BSI), and Dr. Nipon Nachin, Chief Executive Officer of AlphaSec Co., Ltd., who offered their congratulations. The event saw a large attendance of executives from faculties and offices, personnel responsible for IT and information security, and staff from the Digital Technology Office, gathered at Sarnsilp Meeting Room, 2nd Floor, Sirikunakorn Building, Khon Kaen University.

Assistant Professor Pipat Reungsang, Director of the Digital Technology Office, stated that in the digital era, information technology plays a crucial role in operational processes, making the security of information systems paramount. As a leading educational institution in Thailand, Khon Kaen University prioritises the development and maintenance of information security standards in alignment with international standards. The Digital Technology Office has continually worked to enhance its cybersecurity system, improve personal data management, and adhere to the ISO/IEC 27001 (Information Security Management System) standard, which is the global benchmark for information security.

“Receiving the ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification is a source of great pride and a significant milestone for Khon Kaen University in enhancing the security and stability of its central information technology management system to meet international standards,” Assistant Professor Reungsang explained. “This success is the result of collaboration among all personnel at the Digital Technology Office, the support from the university executives, and the consultation provided by external advisors, particularly in refining our policies, information security management procedures, cyber threat prevention, and workforce development.”

The Director added that this certification marks an important beginning, demonstrating the DTO’s commitment to continuous improvement. “This standard will build confidence among the KKU community and all external partners that the university’s critical data is protected vigorously and systematically. Furthermore, recognising units that achieve excellence in information security standards will incentivise and serve as a positive model for other units within the university, reflecting our dedication to maintaining international safety standards.”

Associate Professor Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., President of Khon Kaen University, remarked that this day is historical, as it is the first time that the university’s central IT system has received the ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification. “Those vital to this achievement include the executive team and personnel of the Digital Technology Office who laid the structural foundation for our digital infrastructure. They have enabled the university to establish a digital strategy and use digital technology as a core driver of our operations to this day.”

Dr. Nipon Nachin, Chief Executive Officer of AlphaSec Co., Ltd., expressed his honour to be part of the ceremony and to serve Khon Kaen University, his alma mater. He noted that the project took approximately seven to eight months and required the cooperation of all parties. “We were supported by staff and executives who possessed the vision to drive the university towards international security standards. As advisors, we wish to congratulate everyone on successfully achieving the ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification.”

Mr. Sutthirak Sangarunsiri, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of AlphaSec Co., Ltd., provided an overview of the project, explaining that the core principles of ISO/IEC 27001:2022 are maintaining data confidentiality, integrity, and the availability of information systems. The scope of the certification covers the Data Centre and the network information system. Following the certification, the university now operates with clearer processes and standardised models, including a systematic approach to risk management.

“Every employee played a crucial part in effectively driving this project. This particular certification will build confidence among both service users and external service providers. We hope this achievement will serve as a strong foundation for future advancements in preserving Khon Kaen University’s security,” Mr. Sangarunsiri concluded.

Assistant Professor Denpong Soodphakdee, Ph.D., Vice President for Education and Digital, stated that this operation supports the strategy of becoming a Digital University. He stressed that receiving this certification provides greater certainty in their work, confirming that a standardised system and clear processes will boost the team’s confidence in further development.

“Standardising the system in this way will significantly reduce the burden of problem-solving. We can prevent issues more effectively than in the past. We will use this as a starting point to expand the implementation to other data centres across the university, ensuring that our security processes continue to improve in the future,” the Vice President added.
