Srinagarind Hospital Dispatches Royal Medical Unit to Sakon Nakhon in Honour of the Princess Mother’s Centenary

Srinagarind Hospital, Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University (KKU), organised a Royal Medical Unit to provide general and ophthalmic health examinations and donate medical equipment to students and residents in Sakon Nakhon Province, commemorating the centenary of H.R.H. Princess Srinagarindra, the Princess Mother’s royal birth.


On Friday, 6 February 2026, at the Thung Kongnits Thai Border Patrol Police School in Maet Na Thom sub-district, Khok Si Suphan district, Sakon Nakhon Province, Srinagarind Hospital, Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University, held a comprehensive medical mission. The Royal Medical Unit offered services for general illnesses and eye care for students and the local population, alongside the donation of vital medical equipment. This operation was conducted under the Royal Initiative Project for the Development of Children and Youth, aimed at enhancing the quality of life for people in remote areas.   
The mission was led by Professor Somsak Teemkao, M.D., Director of Srinagarind Hospital, along with Assistant Professor Sanguanchok Luanratanakorn and Assistant Professor Pattanaree Luanratanakorn. They were accompanied by a team of physicians, nurses, and medical personnel who provided proactive healthcare services, ensuring that residents received widespread and equitable access to public health services.   

On this occasion, Mrs. Ranida Lueangthitisakul, Governor of Sakon Nakhon Province, presided over the traditional ceremony to pay respects before the royal likeness of H.R.H. Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, in celebration of the centenary of the birth anniversary of H.R.H. Princess Srinagarindra. The ceremony highlighted the concerted effort of government agencies and network partners who supported the initiative.     

The event garnered cooperation from the Sakon Nakhon Provincial Public Health Office, Khok Si Suphan Hospital, the Khok Si Suphan District Public Health team, the Army Wives Association Branch MTHB 29, Village Health Volunteers (VHVs), and a field kitchen unit from MTHB 29, which together provided comprehensive and supportive services to the public.       

The deployment of this Royal Medical Unit aligns with Khon Kaen University’s Research and Academic Service Transformation strategy, which focuses on leveraging medical expertise and potential to serve society, particularly in rural and vulnerable areas. This effort concretely reflects the University’s role as “The University for Society.”

Furthermore, the mission supports several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, by ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all at all ages; SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities, by diminishing disparities in access to health services; and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, through forging collaborations among government agencies and network partners to achieve sustainable development objectives.


This mission not only honours a significant royal occasion but also demonstrates the collaborative power of academic institutions and their partners to sustainably improve the lives of citizens, in keeping with Khon Kaen University’s commitment to serving society and the nation.
