KKU Srinagarind Hospital Dispatches Royal Medical Unit to Sakon Nakhon, Honouring the 100th Birthday Anniversary of Her Royal Highness Princess Srinagarindra

Srinagarind Hospital, Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University (KKU), conducted a community outreach programme in Khok Si Suphan District, Sakon Nakhon Province, providing comprehensive general medical and optometric check-ups, along with donating medical equipment to local students and residents. This activity was held in honour of the centennial celebration of the birth of Her Royal Highness Princess Srinagarindra, the Princess Mother.

On Friday, 6 February 2026, at Cognis Thai Border Patrol Police School in Maet Nat Thum Subdistrict, Khok Si Suphan District, Sakon Nakhon Province, Srinagarind Hospital deployed the Royal Medical Unit. The team offered consultations for general illnesses and vision problems to students and residents and delivered medical supplies under the Royal Initiative Project for the Development of Children and Youth, aimed at enhancing the quality of life for people in remote areas.

The operation was led by Professor Somsak Tiamkao, M.D., Director of Srinagarind Hospital, along with Assistant Professor Sanguanchoke Luanratanakorn, M.D., and Assistant Professor Pattanaree Luanratanakorn, M.D. They were joined by a dedicated team of doctors, nurses, and medical personnel who provided proactive healthcare services, ensuring equitable and comprehensive access to care for the local population.

 

 

During the event, Mrs. Ronida Luangthitiskul, Governor of Sakon Nakhon Province, presided over the traditional ceremony, paying respect before the royal photograph of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, in commemoration of the 100th Birthday Anniversary of Her Royal Highness Princess Srinagarindra. Representatives from various government agencies and network partners were present to support the execution of the mission.

 

The project received substantial support from the Sakon Nakhon Provincial Public Health Office, Khok Si Suphan Hospital, Khok Si Suphan District Public Health team, the Army Wives Association (Monomthop 29 Branch), Village Health Volunteers (Or Sor Mor), and the field kitchen unit from Military Circle 29, which ensured comprehensive facilitation and services were provided to the local community.

The dispatch of the Royal Medical Unit aligns with Khon Kaen University’s strategy for Research and Academic Service Transformation, which emphasises leveraging professional knowledge and medical expertise to serve society, particularly rural and vulnerable communities. This effort concretely reflects KKU’s institutional role as the “University for Society.”

Furthermore, this initiative supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, by ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all at all ages; SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities, by lessening disparities in access to health services; and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, by fostering cooperation among government agencies and partners to achieve sustainable development goals.

The outreach programme not only honoured a significant royal occasion but also showcased the powerful collaboration between the academic institution and its network partners in sustainably improving the quality of life for the people, adhering to Khon Kaen University’s commitment to the community and the nation.
