KKU Faculty of Interdisciplinary Studies Bolsters Cyber Defences with Digital Shield Workshop

On 27 February 2026, the Faculty of Interdisciplinary Studies at Khon Kaen University organised a project titled “Developing Work Systems and Cyber Threat Prevention with Digital Technology.” Held at the faculty, the event attracted over 120 administrators, staff, and students, reflecting the growing awareness within the academic community of the escalating threats in the digital realm.

The opening ceremony was officiated by Associate Professor Wullapa Wongsinlatam, Ph.D., Vice Dean of the Faculty of Interdisciplinary Studies, who delivered the opening address. Assistant Professor Natthayanee Chantaplaboon, Ph.D., Assistant Dean of the Faculty of Interdisciplinary Studies, followed with a report on the project’s objectives.

The Vice Dean emphasised the critical importance of establishing robust cybersecurity in an era where information technology is integral to daily life, encompassing teaching, work, and personal activities. She highlighted that cyber threats are no longer solely the concern of technology specialists; everyone is a potential target for unexpected attacks.

Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau Region 3 Exposes Pervasive Threats

A special lecture on “Raising Awareness of Current Cyber Threats” was delivered by Pol. Lt. Col. Prapart Thamhem, Deputy Superintendent of the Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau Region 3 (CCIB 3). He presented real-world case studies and fraudulent schemes prevalent online, including phishing emails, identity theft, social media scams, and various forms of financial fraud that have caused extensive damage to victims nationwide.

This session prompted participants to recognise the hidden “warning signs” in online communications that may appear ordinary but conceal dangerous traps.

Engaging Learning: “Spot the Phish & Digital Footprint Quiz”

Ms. Minarin Faboon led an interactive session, “Spot the Phish & Digital Footprint Quiz,” where participants honed their skills in analysing real-case examples of deceptive emails, SMS messages, and social media posts. The activity also exposed the often-overlooked risks associated with one’s digital footprint and social media habits. The session concluded with a knowledge test on the Kahoot! platform, which fostered friendly competition and reinforced practical learning.

Afternoon Session: Strengthening “Cyber Hygiene” for Daily Life

The afternoon continued with an in-depth lecture on “Cyber Hygiene & Self-Protection from Everyday Cyber Threats,” presented by an expert from the Department of Cyber Security, College of Computing, Khon Kaen University. The speaker shared practical daily habits, such as creating strong passwords, keeping software updated, using public Wi-Fi networks safely, and protecting personal data online.

The day concluded with a presentation on “Innovative Cybersecurity Services” by Mr. Patthaphon Phaikhamnam and Mr. Sinthorn Yoongkrasan from the Khon Kaen University Science Park. They introduced tools and support services available to entrepreneurs and organisations seeking to enhance their digital security infrastructure.

Fostering a Secure and Sustainable Digital Environment

The project underscores the faculty’s commitment to equipping its staff and students to meet the challenges of the digital age, guided by the belief that “knowledge is the best shield” in the borderless and ever-evolving world of cyberspace.

This training marks a significant step towards establishing a tangible culture of cybersecurity within the faculty. It is hoped that all participants will apply the knowledge gained in their daily lives and share it with those around them, fostering a wider community of vigilant and informed digital citizens.
