Khon Kaen University Launches Second Academic Olympiad Training Camp

KHON KAEN – The Faculty of Science at Khon Kaen University (KKU) has officially opened its second training camp for the Academic and Astronomy Olympiads for the 2025 academic year. The opening ceremony, held on March 7, 2026, was attended by over 300 students, parents, faculty members, and staff.

The ceremony was presided over by Associate Professor Dr. Sujiporn O-sot, Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs and Academic Services, who welcomed the participants and congratulated the students on successfully advancing to this highly competitive stage.

The Faculty of Science at KKU serves as a regional center for the Promotion of Academic Olympiads and Development of Science Education Foundation (POSN). In this role, the university is responsible for selecting and training students from 14 provinces in Thailand’s northeastern region for national and international competitions.

Associate Professor Sujiporn noted that although tens of thousands of students apply for the programme each year, only a limited number successfully progress through the initial selection stages. She therefore commended the students who successfully passed the first training camp and qualified for this second, more intensive phase of preparation.

“I encourage all students to make the most of this opportunity,” she stated. “Focus on learning from your instructors to prepare for national and international competitions, as well as for your future studies in science and mathematics.”

Following the opening remarks, coordinator Ms. Jiraporn Pimphumi introduced the camp mentors and outlined the rules and regulations for all participants.

The second training camp brings together students who were selected from the first training phase across several academic disciplines. A total of 120 students, 30 from each field, will participate in the chemistry, biology, mathematics, and physics camps. An additional 40 students will attend the astronomy camp, split evenly between junior and senior high school levels.

The camps are scheduled throughout March, with the physics camp running from February 28 to March 18, and the other science and mathematics camps from March 7 to 23. The astronomy camp will take place from March 7 to 25.

At the conclusion of the training, an examination will be held to select the top six students from each subject. These students will then represent the Khon Kaen University POSN center at the national level competitions.
