Khon Kaen University’s College of Computing Hosts “DDAY: AI SYNERGY X” to Showcase the Potential of a New Generation of AI Students

Khon Kaen, Thailand – On 15 March 2026, the College of Computing at Khon Kaen University, in collaboration with the KKU Science Park, hosted the landmark event “DDAY: AI SYNERGY X: Integrating Disciplines, Transforming the Future” alongside the “Kick-off AI Frontier 2026” ceremony. Held at the Khon Kaen University Science Park, the event served as a dynamic platform for showcasing innovative artificial intelligence (AI) projects and fostering collaborative networks between academia and national business sectors.

The opening ceremony, which celebrated a powerful quadripartite collaboration aimed at driving the digital economy of the northeastern region, was presided over by Professor Thidarut Boonmars, D.V.M., Ph.D., Vice President for Enterprise and Societal Sustainability of Khon Kaen University. A report on the event’s objectives was delivered by Dr. Apirachai Wongsriworapol, Director of the KKU Science Park, while Associate Professor Sirapat Chiewchanwattana, Ph.D., Dean of the College of Computing, elaborated on the background and significance of the initiative.

Associate Professor Chiewchanwattana emphasised that the event marked a significant milestone, reflecting the successful implementation of “cross-disciplinary integration,” a key policy of the Khon Kaen University Council. This achievement was made possible through the strong collaboration between the College of Computing and its network partners: the Faculty of Medicine, the Faculty of Agriculture, the Faculty of Business Administration and Accountancy, and the College of Local Administration. He noted that “DDAY: AI SYNERGY X” provided a vital space to unlock student potential through exhibition booths and skill-enhancement activities, catering to all levels from foundational to advanced.

The event featured a showcase of 59 innovative AI projects developed by third-year students from the Artificial Intelligence programme. These projects addressed real-world problems across five key disciplines: medicine, agriculture, business administration, public administration, and computer science. The presentations covered both applied and core technologies, with students demonstrating their capabilities in roles such as:

  • Data Scientist: Conducting in-depth analysis of real-world data.
  • Machine Learning Engineer: Building Machine Learning/Deep Learning models and developing user-centric AI solutions.
  • Deep Learning Engineer: Developing advanced AI innovations (Vision, NLP) to solve complex challenges.
  • AI Engineer: Deploying end-to-end systems for practical application.

A key highlight was a panel discussion titled, “How AI is Changing Real-World Business: New Opportunities for Northeastern Entrepreneurs.” The session featured leading experts, including Dr. Sombat Somsa from the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI); Mr. Anupong Tasaduak, Chief Executive Officer of Scale Co., Ltd.; Associate Professor Cholatip Pongskul, M.D., Assistant to the President for Strategic Plan Monitoring and Key Initiatives and Director of the Medical Hub and Wellness Administration Centre; Mr. Kangwan Laowirojnkul, Vice Chairman of Smart City, Khon Kaen Chamber of Commerce; Dr. Chanwit Boonchuay, President of the Artificial Intelligence Entrepreneurs Association of Thailand (AIEAT); and Mr. Naruepon Wechaiyo, a Venture Builder from Botnoi Group.

Furthermore, the event included a “From Zero to Hero” workshop for second-year students, along with a session on high-performance computing using the H100 GPU. These activities, which are integral to both teaching and research, are designed to prepare students for the demands of the digital labour market. Leading enterprises also participated in the exhibition, including Charoen Pokphand Foods Public Company Limited (CPF), Botnoi Consulting Co., Ltd., and the AIEAT.

This event not only highlighted the exceptional capabilities of a new generation of AI students but also declared Khon Kaen University’s readiness to lead in AI innovation. It reaffirmed the university’s commitment to “Integrating Disciplines, Transforming the Future” and driving the nation’s digital economy with sustainable progress.
