KKU Preps Culinary Students for Global Careers with “Chef Guru” Workshop

Khon Kaen University (KKU) is bridging the gap between the classroom and the professional kitchen by equipping its culinary students with essential language skills and industry insights before they embark on their summer internships.

On 18 March 2026, the Office of Academic Service, in collaboration with the Faculty of Technology, organised a “Pre-Internship Preparation” workshop at the Bayasita Hotel. The event was specifically designed for second-year students in Culinary Science and Technology, aiming to enhance their confidence and professional readiness.

The day-long programme began with a focus on international communication skills. Mr Josh Macknick from KKU’s International College led a session on “English for Culinary Arts,” equipping students with technical vocabulary and practical communication skills necessary for international kitchen environments.

A major highlight of the event was a panel discussion titled “Sharing Experiences on the Path to Becoming a Chef,” which drew attention from both first and second-year students. The session featured two prominent industry experts:

  • Ms. Orawan Kotchum, Executive Pastry Chef at Viking Ocean Cruises PVT. LTD, who shared her global experiences working aboard world-class cruise ships.
  • Acting Sub Lt. Kamol Tangpatikan, Executive Chef at the Bayasita Hotel, who offered insights into hotel kitchen management and career growth within the hospitality sector.

The discussion was moderated by Dr. Pongpan Satthatip, Associate Dean for Industrial Relations and Sustainability at the KKU Business School, who helped connect the speakers’ insights to the practical realities of the service industry.

The workshop concluded with an orientation session led by Faculty of Technology professors Dr. Kwanruedee Wachirattanapongmethee, Dr. Pakkanun Charoensri, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Patimakorn Klaiprasit. They briefed the students on essential regulations, precautions, and professional conduct to ensure a successful and productive summer internship.

This initiative reflects KKU’s commitment to producing high-quality graduates who are not only academically capable but also equipped with strong communication skills and a professional mindset, ready to enter the modern labour market with confidence.
