On 23 March 2026, the Office of Academic Service (OAS) at Khon Kaen University welcomed a working committee from King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT) for the project “Expansion of the Higher Education Network for Developing the Professional Potential of Persons with Disabilities, Phase 2” (KMUTT Model). The KMUTT team was led by Dr. Orakanyanee Lewing-issara, Assistant to the President for Lifelong Learning and the project lead, along with Ms. Viyada Boonpetch, Head of Network Coordination; Mr. Thanasak Thuanthong, Head of Training Coordination; and coordinators Ms. Chanisa Thanavesaratchakun, Ms. Pawinee Binraman, and Ms. Ubonlada Nanthakasikorn, to monitor the project’s progress and outcomes in the Khon Kaen area.

In the morning, Associate Professor Chuchat Kamollerd, D.V.M., Ph.D., Director of the Office of Academic Service and the project lead at KKU, and Assistant Professor Surapol Nesusin, Ph.D., Deputy Director for Academic Service and the project’s deputy lead, warmly welcomed the KMUTT committee. A meeting was held to present an overview and summarise the project’s implementation across three sites, updating the committee on the progress made in developing the potential of persons with disabilities.

Subsequently, the committee travelled to the Daeng Yai Sub-district Administrative Organisation in Mueang District, Khon Kaen, to observe the development and enhancement of community handicraft skills. Ms. Jatuporn Thongsuk, President of the Ban Hua Thanon Community Enterprise Group, led a workshop on upcycling fabric scraps into creative products such as fabric belts and bracelets, demonstrating how to add value to waste materials. Additionally, workshops on product analysis, target audience identification, and packaging design were conducted by Ms. Oraphan Suwanwijit and Ms. Sasiyapha Samranrom, providing participants with professional skills to bring their products to market.

In the afternoon, the delegation proceeded to the Ban Dong Sub-district Administrative Organisation in Ubolratana District, Khon Kaen. They observed a workshop on packaging and logo design for products made by the local disability group, including mushroom chilli paste, fermented fish chilli paste, planting soil, and soap. Ms. Sasiyapha Samranrom led a session titled “The Secret Formula Behind a Memorable Logo,” which covered the seven key elements of product identity design. This was aimed at empowering the group to present their products distinctively and build effective brand recognition in the market.

This project reflects the strong commitment of both the Office of Academic Service, Khon Kaen University, and King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi to collaboratively develop the potential of persons with disabilities in the community. Through practical vocational skills training and concrete economic opportunities, the initiative aims to enable them to achieve sustainable self-reliance, enhancing their quality of life and fostering stable growth and progress in the Khon Kaen province.
