Pimon Kolakit Building Coordination Committee Hosts Fire Safety and Basic Life Support (CPR and AED) Training to Enhance Emergency Preparedness

The Pimon Kolakit Building Coordination Committee recently organised a basic skills training programme focusing on fire prevention, fire suppression, and basic life support (CPR and AED). Bringing together expert teams from the Security and Disaster Prevention Division and the Queen Sirikit Heart Centre of the Northeast, the initiative provided intensive training for personnel across five primary departments within the building. The programme aimed to establish a robust safety network, ensuring readiness to manage emergency situations effectively.

On 1 April 2026, Associate Professor Chuchat Kamollerd, Ph.D., Director of the Office of Academic Service, presided over the opening ceremony of the “Basic Skills Training Programme on Fire Prevention, Fire Suppression, and Basic Life Support (CPR).” The event was attended by executives and staff from units operating within the Pimon Kolakit Building, including the Graduate School, the Office of Academic Service, the Office of Academic Administration and Development, the International Affairs Division, and the Strategic and Coordination Institute for Northeastern Development.

During his opening remarks, Associate Professor Kamollerd emphasised, “The Pimon Kolakit Building is a large structure comprising five storeys. In accordance with safety standards, it is imperative to conduct annual fire prevention and suppression drills. Theoretical knowledge alone is insufficient; all personnel must undergo practical training until they achieve proficiency. In the face of an emergency, these drills ensure we know how to communicate effectively, utilise equipment, and perform basic life support for both fire-related incidents and health emergencies, such as heatstroke or sudden unconsciousness. This training represents the highest level of preparedness for our staff, particularly in anticipation of the students who will be attending classes in this building in the upcoming academic year.”

The training was systematically divided into two key components. The morning session focused on disaster risk management in high-rise buildings and incident command. Mr. Morakot Subin, Director of the Security and Disaster Prevention Division at Khon Kaen University, alongside a team of expert instructors, delivered comprehensive lectures. The team also guided participants through simulated scenarios for basic fire suppression, including the correct practical application of fire extinguishers.

In the afternoon, the focus shifted to a practical workshop on basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs). Facilitated by expert instructors from the Queen Sirikit Heart Centre of the Northeast, participants engaged in hands-on learning stations. The curriculum covered assessing environmental safety, evaluating patient consciousness, and contacting the 1669 emergency medical hotline, as well as practising effective chest compressions and AED operation on training manikins.

Throughout the training programme, personnel from all five departments demonstrated significant engagement, actively practising with authentic firefighting and CPR equipment. To successfully complete the programme, all participants were required to pass a practical examination assessing their basic life support and AED skills, earning a certificate upon meeting the instructors’ rigorous evaluation criteria. Moving forward, this collaborative effort not only establishes a unified safety standard but also strengthens the departmental network within the Pimon Kolakit Building, ensuring it remains a genuinely safe environment for both university personnel and students
