KKU Biology Students Win Three Outstanding Research Awards at 14th National Taxonomy Conference

Students from the Faculty of Science demonstrated exceptional research capabilities, highlighting the university’s commitment to advancing biodiversity knowledge for a sustainable future.

The Faculty of Science at Khon Kaen University extends its heartfelt congratulations to students from the Biology programme for their outstanding success at The 14th Conference on Taxonomy and Systematics in Thailand. The students brought great honour to the faculty by securing three prestigious awards for their research presentations on biodiversity. The conference was held from 6–8 May 2026, at the University of Phayao’s Faculty of Science.

This year’s conference, themed “Taxonomy and Systematics: Research Utilization, Biodiversity, Ecosystem Services, and Community for a Sustainable Future,” provided a platform for researchers and students from across the country to exchange in-depth knowledge. The event focused on discovering new species and promoting interdisciplinary research collaboration.

The students from the Faculty of Science who received awards for their excellent oral presentations are:

Mr. Silakan Khunnok, a master’s degree student in Biology, received the Outstanding Award for his presentation titled, “Morphological Variation of Limestone Balsam (Impatiens zygosepala) in Thailand.” He was advised by Associate Professor Pimwadee Porpongrungrueng, Ph.D., and Dr. Piyakaset Suksathan.

Mr. Kanet Srikampha, a doctoral student in Biology, received the Good Award for his presentation on “Tiny but Mighty: Integrated Taxonomy Reveals a New Genus of Small-bodied Pill Millipedes from Thailand.” His advisor was Assistant Professor Rattaphol Srisanichay, Ph.D.

Ms. Theemaporn Benjaphong, a doctoral student in Biology, received an Honourable Mention for her presentation titled, “Uncovering Hidden Diversity from the Gonopods: Evolutionary Insights into the Millipede Genus Enghoffosoma Golovatch, 1993.” Her advisor was also Assistant Professor Rattaphol Srisanichay, Ph.D.

The success of these three students clearly reflects the Faculty of Science’s commitment to providing high-quality education and producing world-class research. By nurturing a new generation of researchers with expertise in taxonomy and biodiversity analysis, the faculty not only contributes new scientific knowledge but also lays a crucial foundation for natural resource conservation. This work is pivotal in driving society and the environment towards a sustainable future.

Furthermore, this achievement demonstrates the dedication and effective teamwork between faculty members and students, which has led to concrete success at the national level.
