Srinagarind Hospital Urges Strict Precautions Following Ministry Declaration of High-Risk Zones

Khon Kaen University (KKU), through Srinagarind Hospital under the Faculty of Medicine, has issued an urgent advisory urging staff, students, and residents within the campus community to remain vigilant regarding Ebola Virus Disease (EVD). The notification follows an official announcement by the Ministry of Public Health that designated the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Republic of Uganda as dangerous communicable disease zones, effective from 21 May 2026.

Although no cases of the disease have been detected in Thailand, it remains a severe and highly virulent infection with a high mortality rate. In response to the global situation, Khon Kaen University asks that individuals who have travelled from or transited through these high-risk countries within the past 21 days monitor their health closely. Those experiencing symptoms such as acute high fever, extreme weakness, headache, muscle pain, sore throat, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhoea are urged to contact public health authorities immediately.

The university administration encourages all sectors of the community to stay informed by closely following official updates from public health agencies. The campus population is advised to remain calm but vigilant, adhering strictly to preventive measures to ensure personal and public safety. Individuals are also requested to avoid non-essential travel to affected areas and to practise rigorous hygiene, including frequent handwashing, avoiding contact with bodily fluids of infected or suspected individuals, and refraining from sharing personal items.

Srinagarind Hospital and the primary care units of Khon Kaen University have deployed specialised teams for continuous surveillance, investigation, and control of communicable diseases across the hospital premises and the wider university community. These measures ensure preparedness and an immediate, coordinated response should any high-risk individuals or suspected cases be identified.
