The Department of Environmental Science, Faculty of Science, Khon Kaen University (KKU), led by Assoc. Prof. Sarun Kiatmaleestat, Ph.D., Head of the Department of Environmental Science, together with Assoc. Prof. Lamyai Neeratanaphan, Ph.D., and Asst. Prof. Nuchanart Chamchoi, Ph.D., formally welcomed Lecturer Alexandra Mae Martin and undergraduate students from the Lao American Institute (LAI), Lao People’s Democratic Republic, for an academic study visit focused on environmental management.
During the visit, the Department of Environmental Science organised specialised lectures and knowledge-sharing sessions on environmental science. The sessions provided the visiting students with foundational knowledge in water quality analysis, including the measurement of Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD), Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), pH levels, and Total Suspended Solids (TSS). The lectures also introduced key techniques in air pollution control, allowing students to understand the principles of environmental quality assessment, the practical application of scientific instruments, and real-world environmental management practices.
The faculty members also facilitated an interactive Q&A session, enabling the students to exchange academic viewpoints and personal experiences. A guided tour of the department’s advanced laboratories followed, where the visitors observed the operation of professional scientific equipment and standard operational procedures. This practical exposure enhanced the students’ learning experiences and broadened their international perspectives on environmental science.
This study visit reflects the ongoing academic cooperation between Khon Kaen University and the Lao American Institute. The initiative aims to promote knowledge exchange, build capacity among both students and faculty members, and establish a strong collaborative network in environmental education and research between Thailand and the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, contributing to regional sustainable development.
