From 3 to 4 July 2026, Associate Professor Amornrat Chumneamtsong, Ph.D., Associate Dean for Administration, and Assistant Professor Wanida Donpunha, Ph.D., Assistant Dean for Environment and Staff Development, represented the Faculty of Associated Medical Sciences at Khon Kaen University (AMS, KKU) at the 11th Allied Health Sciences International Symposium in the Philippines. The symposium was jointly organised by the Allied Health Sciences Consortium, with Centro Escolar University serving as the main host and Far Eastern University – Dr. Nicanor Reyes Medical Foundation (FEU-NRMF) as co-host.
Organised under the theme “Initiatives and Innovations in Health Education in the Era of Artificial Intelligence”, this year’s symposium focused on exchanging knowledge and innovations in health sciences education in the age of AI. The event also aimed to foster academic collaboration and strengthen networking opportunities among international member institutions.
Associate Professor Chumneamtsong said that participating in the symposium provided an excellent opportunity to exchange knowledge, experiences, and best practices in health sciences education with network institutions worldwide. She emphasised that the insights gained into applying AI technologies to enhance teaching and learning management, competency assessments, and curriculum development are highly relevant to future healthcare systems. This knowledge will directly benefit educational development at the Faculty of Associated Medical Sciences at Khon Kaen University, helping produce graduates with competencies that meet international standards while strengthening academic collaborations with global alliance institutions.
Associate Professor Chumneamtsong added that being honoured and entrusted to host the 12th Allied Health Sciences International Symposium in 2027 marks another milestone for the faculty. It reflects the faculty’s readiness and potential to serve as a hub for international academic cooperation. The university will prepare comprehensively across academic affairs, administrative management, delegate facilities, and the creation of high-quality exchange platforms to ensure that the upcoming symposium successfully promotes cooperative networks, advances health science innovations, and substantially raises the profile of KKU and Thailand on the international academic stage.
Assistant Professor Donpunha remarked that the symposium offered a valuable platform to exchange insights on innovations, research, and health rehabilitation technologies with international experts. It highlighted current global trends in developing tools and innovations designed to improve patients’ quality of life, alongside the highly effective application of technology and AI in healthcare. The experience gained will help advance research, enhance instructional delivery, and foster international academic partnerships, ultimately raising the international standing of the faculty’s healthcare education programmes.
During the symposium, the representatives from the Faculty of Associated Medical Sciences at KKU were invited as speakers to deliver lectures on key topics:
- Associate Professor Amornrat Chumneamtsong, Ph.D. presented in the Plenary Session on the topic ‘A Longitudinal Competency-Based Assessment and Certification System for Medical Technology and Physical Therapy Students’, highlighting a continuous competency assessment and certification model throughout the curriculum. She also delivered a lecture titled ‘Building Capacity in Genomics and Precision Medicine through Specialized Training and Curriculum Integration’, detailing approaches to capacity building in genomics and precision medicine via specialized training and curriculum integration.
- Assistant Professor Wanida Donpunha, Ph.D. delivered a lecture on the topic ‘Development of a Prototype Exercise Machine for Lower Limb Strengthening in Children with Cerebral Palsy’, showcasing the development of a prototype exercise machine engineered to strengthen lower limb muscles in children affected by cerebral palsy.
On this occasion, the Faculty of Associated Medical Sciences at Khon Kaen University officially received the host flag for the 12th Allied Health Sciences International Symposium, to be held in 2027. KKU will host this major international academic event, reflecting the faculty’s progressive role and capacity as a leader in international education, research, and academic collaboration within the health sciences field.
