The collaborative lifelong learning programme equips professional nurses with standardised, high-precision assessment skills to strengthen emergency medical services and patient safety.
The Office of Academic Service at Khon Kaen University (KKU) continues to strengthen the national healthcare framework by hosting the 17th class of its lifelong learning training programme, “Emergency Patient Triage for Registered Nurses”. Held from 9 to 10 July 2026 at the Bangkok Palace Hotel in Bangkok, the intensive course aimed to build professional nurses’ core competencies in systematic, evidence-based emergency triage. This initiative aligns with national emergency medicine standards to maximise patient safety and optimise medical service efficiency.
To deliver expert clinical insights, the training featured Dr. Thanakon Laksanamaphan, a paramedic specialist and lecturer in the Department of Emergency Medicine, Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol University. Dr. Laksanamaphan covered the roles and professional competencies of emergency nurse practitioners, operational protocols, and systematic in-hospital triage models. The curriculum focused on sharpening fast, accurate, and highly effective clinical decision-making skills during critical situations.
The workshop utilised an active learning approach, encouraging participants to analyse real-world clinical scenarios and engage in interactive, real-time question-and-answer sessions. The approach sharpened critical thinking and let the attending nurses exchange practical experience, helping them translate clinical theory directly into life-saving practice when managing emergency patients.
This training programme reflects Khon Kaen University’s commitment to combining advanced medical expertise with professional capacity-building. By equipping healthcare personnel with these essential skills, the project directly supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), by reducing preventable mortality in emergency care, and SDG 4 (Quality Education), by promoting continuous lifelong learning. Through these sustained academic services, KKU continues to play an important role in strengthening national public health infrastructure and building public trust in emergency medical systems.
